If you don’t speak Rugby, this will be baffling. If you do, you will recognise it as one of the greatest passages of play in the history of the game. Japan, offered repeated chances to tie with South Africa, risk it all in the final minutes. WC 2015 youtube.com/watch?v=RgxoGM…

@BoothCricket It’s Australia. It should feel like something worthwhile. Instead it’s insta-forgettable and as meaningless as any other drop-in white ball set against anyone anywhere anytime. A good night/day out it can be, but when cold and wet; a pricey grind.

Anyone else underwhelmed by cramming eight white-ball internationals against Australia into the back-end of the season? That, and other matters for English cricket to consider: dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/…

That was the biggest appeal to be loved during a downpour since Andie MacDowell in Four Weddings and a Funeral. “Is it raining? I hadn’t noticed.” Things can only get wetter…

@hollajamesbird @ThatsSoVillage I am so heartened to read this. It is a joy. You are so right about what it is that makes this game great and unique at once. Bravo 🎩 A win will come, but who cares?

just want to give a shoutout to my dad who has run the fourth team at the local cricket club for something like 15 years. before today, they’d lost 22 games in a row and consist of, usually, a 75 year old wicket keeper, two 60 year olds, couple of fifty year olds, a handful of teenage girls and boys, and then some odd bits and bobs like me who play once a year. my dad messaged me this morning whilst I was on my way up to wolverhampton to say that he’d been ill overnight so would be captaining from the shade of a tree whilst drinking lots of fluids, but ended up umpiring for an hour and fielding the whole time. he couldn’t pick me up from the train station, so Ben the vice captain did, who can’t really walk anymore, and he sent me this: Morning Jamie hope ur well. U have the misfortune of being picked up by me today. Let me know how your train is doing and I will be outside station as u exit. Look for a metallic blue Renault kadjgar being driven by gimli from the Lord of the rings ....wearing a blue cap. anyway, we lost in the final over today but my dad still moved himself into a catching position and took a catch two balls later, and we batted together for a couple of overs. our two opening batsmen were a 73 year old and a 50 something year old, and our opening bowlers were a 13 year old boy and 17 year old girl. cricket at highest level can be disappointingly upper class and archaic, so disappointingly, but at a grassroots level like this it’s so fulfilling. not sure any other sport in the world can have such a wide demographic of people playing in a single game. anyway, that makes it 23 lost games in a row. win soon come.

@ukhomeoffice This absolutely disgusting you still have time to take this down, your social media team is vile, the fact that you have hired an editor and videographer for this is actually disturbing, actually ashamed of calling myself British sometimes

@GabbyLogan Absolutely. Limit to two replacements. That will show a real coach’s and team’s mettle. Create more exciting finishes as teams tire, and probably reduce injuries. Reduce squads, save money. Rugby needs to do this

Does International rugby need to do something about the replacements? Many games are balanced until the bench is emptied and then the dominant nation prevails. Limit them? Restrict to a 4-4 split? Leave it alone?

@sid_lambert Unpopular opinion; overrated goal. This is a keeper blindsided by 2 players, beaten by a toe poke with little back lift! His overhead vs Villarreal greater technically greater and improvisation. His debut goal for Barca. Lad scored loads better, but this is the one I see the most

@sid_lambert Beautiful toe-poke. The only shape of shot he could have hit then for that result. What a master
