Life really is a circle. I have an infant in NICU and a grandparent in a care facility. Exact same convos about feeding tubes. Same diaper creams. Same bathing schedules. Etc etc etc. Family is most important, that’s who will take care of you at the beginning, and at the end.

Career Update Post #2: This month, I have joined VSPO, Asia's biggest esports operator, as the company’s new global head of comms. I will be splitting my time between Hong Kong and Shanghai. About the switch, long story short, I didn’t expect to go into comms but VSPO’s story is unique. The company's founder Dino Ying, who I have known for a bit, has an ambitious and electrifying vision for the future of games and sports. Getting to work with him -- and with a company where the average age is only 26 -- to bring this vision to life is an opportunity that I cannot miss. VSPO is not just a regular company but also a steward for the Asian esports industry. It’s a key player in making esports a medal sports at the Asian Games a reality last year. For the first-ever Esports World Cup next month, VSPO will also be a major contributor. Also, the first-ever Olympic Esports Games is set to take place later this year. VSPO was already an important partner for the Olympic Esports Week last year. So there is a lot of excitement ahead. Anyway, when Dino was recruiting me, he told me that he needed all the help he could get, fully aware of the Herculean task that VSPO has signed itself up for. The industry is still incredibly young and no one knows what its ultimate form will look like in the future. Still, at that moment, I knew that Dino is committed to assembling the best team to elevate esports. Being at the company for the past couple of days, I can already sense the genuine hunger for talents and good ideas. So for all my connections out there, know that I'm always down to talk and exchange ideas. My position is new and there are many possibilities. So to kick off the conversation, I have recently appeared on the Naavik Podcast with @aaron_bush_ to discuss “The State of Chinese Gaming” -- also as a bit of a recap of my journalism journey -- as I was going through this transition. Feel free to have a listen! youtube.com/watch?v=HdRi-B…

Career Update Post #1:Last month, I left my role at Reuters after two unbelievable years at the world's leading news agency. Writing for Reuters was a dream come true. It was everything I dreamed about when I was a young writer in university ten years ago. All in all, I'm incredibly grateful for the team, and @brendagoh_ is an awesome, caring and inspiring leader who always leads by example, something that will always stay with me. For the final month, I have appeared on a few podcasts and video segments talking about the TikTok ban and represented Reuters at the Beyond Expo in Macau. Feel free to give them a watch/listen. Reuters TV: youtu.be/hQJ9aHuLU3s?si… Reuters World News Podcast: reuters.com/podcasts/podca… Beyond Expo panel: youtube.com/watch?v=rg7Ts9… Looking back, I have spent the past ten years writing for multiple news outlets. It's been a surreal experience. That said, I won't stop writing. For the next two to three years, I'll be working on a book, maybe two, while I take on another amazing challenge at another terrific company.

After returning to China earlier this year to reconnect with a country where I've lived for 20 years, my overall impression is that it's never been more (self) isolated than at any point in the past 45 years. Read my full account @ForeignAffairs foreignaffairs.com/china/xi-jinpi…

After six years, I’ve left @SixthTone. Or conditions were created for me to leave after publishing a project that criticized “zero-COVID,” which landed multiple people in hot water. It’s been bittersweet leaving a place we’ve built over the years but it was time. (A long 🧵)
