I just realised that my very early cover of #GlorytoHongKong is one of the 32 videos that the Department of Justice requested to ban in their submission for legal injunction and interim injunction. Sharing this here and I would not stop singing it👇🏻 youtu.be/koOAJHt9UO8

If a bounty-hunted, sanctioned by Beijing, victim in an ongoing National Security Act espionage case like @finnlau_cd is made to wait interminably for a UK citizenship determination, what hope have other HK BN(O)s got? Come on @ukhomeoffice sort it out! thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Today, my father was convicted simply for being my father. This is how the Hong Kong government retaliates against me and my pro-democracy advocacy. This is hostage taking. This is transnational repression.

Shibani wrote a heap of damn good stories, people know that. What they didn’t see was her working the phones to get a colleague out of a Cambodian jail, helping a journo hunted by the junta escape Myanmar and answering every email from Singaporean kids asking how to be reporters.

I've been laid off from the Post today, along with too many of my incredible colleagues, after eight incredible years, most of them in Hong Kong and covering China's expansion, a story that will define our generation.

🚨 We have submitted formal written evidence to Parliament regarding the Government's 'Routes to Settlement' inquiry. Our findings are clear: Proposed "Earned Settlement" rules risk trapping BN(O) families and Hong Kong refugees in decades of instability. 🧵(1/6)

This decision - which I have fought hard to stop - will be felt most acutely by Hongkongers who have made their home here over the past five years under the BN(O) visa scheme in good faith, trusting the UK government to stand by its commitments to their safety and freedoms. (1/6)

🇭🇰 On the eve of today's expected announcement of the planning decision on Beijing's "mega-embassy" application, yesterday evening I asked the Foreign Office Minister whether she shares any of my concerns.

The Chinese “super embassy” at Royal Mint Court has been approved despite serious security concerns and sustained public opposition. Local residents are now crowdfunding a judicial review. Only 6 weeks to act. Please support and share ⬇️ gofundme.com/f/stop-the-meg…

The judgment against Jimmy Lai today spanned over 850 pages, but it’s mostly just copy and paste of transcripts and documents without much by way of analysis. It’s just a case of putting more dead wood on a pyre with which to burn Jimmy Lai, and is an ultra-longwinded way of saying that, amongst other things (below are just a sample of lowlights in the ruling): - campaigning for one’s political views is a crime; - having an editorial stance in journalism that runs counter to the government of the day is a crime; - running a bilingual media outlet with a view to international outreach is a crime; - calling for international concern and action against one’s government for acts that ran counter to international human rights standards is a crime; - being an activist media proprietor is a crime; - having foreigner employees is a crime; - chatting with foreigners about one’s situation on the home front is a crime; - asking the public to support youths and small businesses is a crime.

#BREAKING : Hong Kong pro-democracy media tycoon Jimmy Lai has been found guilty of all three charges in his national security trial. He faced two counts of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces, and one count of conspiracy to publish seditious publications.

Speaking as an individual who is named at least 110 times in Jimmy Lai’s verdict: The verdict is another proof that (1) Hong Kong judiciary system has been turned into a common law legal system with Chinese Communist Party Characteristics; (1/4)

Jimmy Lai has been convicted in a sham trial. My name appears 161 times in the #JimmyLai judgment and IPAC nearly 200 times. Jimmy had nothing to do with IPAC. We offered to give evidence to the court, but they didn’t want the truth. And Starmer wants to go China?

5-year settlement route for BN(O)s welcomed; BUT the proposed income or “economic contribution” rules could shut out low-income BN(O) families; a jump from B1 to B2 English by 2026 is unfair; and Hong Kong refugees without BN(O) status could face 20-40 years before settlement.
Hong Kong Aid 港援@hkaiduk

🧵The @hkaiduk team notes today’s announcement by @ukhomeoffice on settlement changes for BN(O) holders. While we recognise the protection of the 5-year route, we also have serious concerns that must be addressed. Full statement in the press release attached below. (1/4)
