(The Guardian)

While celebrity anchors remain busy discussing and distributing “melody,” people in Valsad, Gujarat are battling a severe water crisis. Residents are being forced to climb down wells over 45 feet deep using ropes, just to collect water for daily needs.

Gen Z, as used in India, implies a level of depoliticisation or at least distance from organised politics The minute young people take up specific working class or constitutional causes (labour, farm laws, CAA etc) they lose their GenZ tag in the eyes of the mass media

@anasdharar People are right to be skeptic though. They blindly believed the anna andolan and look what they got back. Look at the state of the country now. People have every right to make sure that they don't get fooled twice.

I don't understand why everyone expects CJP to be pixel perfect. The way people are questioning CJP, have you ever questioned the ruling and opposition parties? Question karke bhi kya karoge, jawab toh vo denge nahi (iykyk) It is not perfect, but a direction has been formed.

One journalist @HelleLyngSvends compares the Indian media to Saudi Arabia and Cuba, and all hell breaks loose. Let me go one step further. Our media — the Godi media — is worse than Radio Rwanda. We have anchors against whom cases related to inciting riots have been registered. We have an anchor who actually did a show on “15 types of Jihad” based on a WhatsApp forward. Former Chief Justice of India Bobde had said during the Tablighi Jamaat case that our media had misused the freedom of expression. The entire propaganda surrounding Tablighi Jamaat was false — built on lies — and that is what our media has become: a riot-mongering machine and a sycophant of the BJP. The problem is that we live in a country where the industrialists who own most television channels and the BJP appear to have reached an understanding that no serious questions will be asked of the BJP or the Prime Minister. Anybody questioning the BJP is labelled anti-national. This is the reality of modern India under BJP. So let us accept the fact that the press in India is in an abysmal condition and freedom of expression is in the doldrums. Let us also not forget that India ranks 157th when it comes to press freedom. Raids are conducted against NDTV and once the ownership changes hands all the cases are withdrawn . HW news , Newsclick, Quint is raided. Digital platforms are removed without any transparency and the Govt has to eat humble pie in the court( 4PM news network) Courts pass ex parte orders based on the application of an industrialist and all shows are ordered to be removed. You call this freedom of press ? Are you aware of what the broadcast bill is and what it aims to achieve? Stop this charade and stop looking for conspiracy theories everytime someone's asks Modi ji a question.

Journalism is sometimes confrontational. We seek answers. If any interview subject, especially with power, do not answer what I asked, I will try to interrupt and get a more focused response. That is my job & duty. I want answers and not just talking points.

India is already facing serious pressure on its balance of payment: Oil prices have risen recently, remittances from overseas Indians have fallen, and foreign capital has been fleeing the country. On top of that, as an emerging economy, capital is the scarcest resource it needs for its development anyway. So why are Indian companies still committing to huge investments in the United States? It seems the US really treats India as its “blood bag”—a source to suck blood from and keep itself alive. Through a series of geopolitical maneuvers that were not aimed at India but weakened India greatly anyway, Washington made it much easier to do three things: 1) sell high-priced oil and natural gas to India; 2) sell expensive weapons systems to India; and 3) squeeze out large investment commitments from Indian tycoons. in.usembassy.gov/record-20-5-bi…

My reply to someone considering starting a video game company: The distribution of possible rewards for starting a video game company are generally not very good today. The market is well served, and gaining a foothold requires strong execution on both business and product issues, along with a substantial amount of luck. Plan to burn through seven figures with a not-great chance of making it back. If you do go for it, some bits of advice: Identify your customers clearly before you start. Not just a broad community, but specific people, and imagine them as you make decisions. Initially, build the smallest, most concise game you can imagine anyone paying for. It will still take much longer than you expect. Once something exists, hill-climb the value. Hopefully you will have some elements that clearly bring joy to people, which you can magnify. There will inevitably be tons of things that people find confusing, frustrating, or just boring that you will need to fix.

The legendary Ian Murdock • Founded Debian in 1993 at age 20, while a Purdue undergrad • Name "Debian" = Debra (his girlfriend) + Ian — she later became his wife • Debian became the base for Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Raspberry Pi OS, hundreds of distros, arguably the most influential Linux project ever • Worked at Sun Microsystems on Solaris • Became Chief Operating System officer at Docker, right at the peak of container adoption • Died December 28, 2015, age 42, officially ruled suicide • His final hours: a series of distressed tweets describing a violent encounter with San Francisco police (claimed they beat him during an arrest), followed by increasingly erratic posts, then silence • His Twitter account was deleted by the family shortly after; the tweets are preserved in archives Debian is still going strong, 30+ years later, without him but his contributions can never be forgotten.

Dennis Ritchie created C in the early 1970s without Google, Stack Overflow, GitHub, or any AI ( Claude, Cursor, Codex) assistant. - No VC funding. - No viral launch. - No TED talk. - Just two engineers at Bell Labs. A terminal. And a problem to solve. He built a language that fit in kilobytes. 50 years later, it runs everything. Linux kernel. Windows. macOS. Every iPhone. Every Android. NASA’s deep space probes. The International Space Station. > Python borrowed from it. > Java borrowed from it. > JavaScript borrowed from it. If you have ever written a single line of code in any language, you did it in Dennis Ritchie’s shadow. He died in 2011. The same week as Steve Jobs. Jobs got the front pages. Ritchie got silence. This Legend deserves to be celebrated.
