It’s a general principle that as economies grow, agriculture must shrink in importance. But perhaps what declines is not agriculture itself… only our imagination of it In a village near Kota, Shree Kishan Suman re-imagined his farming practice, shifted from his inherited farming of wheat & rice to first floriculture & then to mango grafting. What strikes me is not just the outcome, but the method. This is true entrepreneurship: resilience in the face of uncertainty, a science-based approach, and the patience to let nature reveal its secrets. We most often look for startups in our engineering campuses. We should be looking just as closely at our farms. If this variety proves scalable, it opens up real possibilities: for farmers’ incomes, for supply chains, even for how we experience something as seasonal (and sacred!)as the mango. What if mango season didn’t really end? And if he ever chooses to scale his venture, I’d be more than willing to back him.
The Better India@thebetterindia

What if mango season never really ended? In a village near Kota, farmer and horticulturist Shree Kishan Suman has grown something India has never quite seen before. A mango variety called ‘Sadabahar’ that can bear fruit up to three times a year. In a country where mangoes are an emotion, not just a fruit, this changes everything. Suman’s journey did not begin with mangoes. After unstable returns from wheat and rice, he shifted to floriculture and even created a rose plant that bloomed in seven colours. That same curiosity pushed him towards mango grafting. Years of observation led him to one unusual tree that flowered across multiple seasons. He spent over a decade refining it into what is now Sadabahar. With its rich flavour, low fibre, and Alphonso-like quality, this variety is already drawing attention from farmers and researchers across India and beyond. From Rashtrapati Bhavan to private orchards, saplings are slowly making their way across states. While scientists are still studying how it performs across climates, one thing is clear. This is a bold step towards reimagining how and when we grow what we love. Would you wait five years for a mango that grows beyond seasons? #WATCH | Delhi: Addressing the YUGM Conclave, PM Narendra Modi says, "...We have set a time frame of the next 25 years for the goal of a developed India. We have limited time; the goals are big. I am not saying this for the present situation. That is why it is important that the journey of our idea from prototype to product is also completed in the shortest possible time. When we reduce the distance from lab to market, the results of research start reaching people faster. This also motivates the research..."

Dr. Abhishek Swarnkar was a scientist whose research was recognised in international journals, he recently returned to India after working in Switzerland and was working at India’s premier institution for science and research, IISER Mohali. And he was killed by a bully, in a society that gives little to no respect to academics, researchers and scientists. His tragic death is a damning indictment of how India treats its brightest minds. A scientist who gave up the comfort of a foreign life to contribute to his country was silenced by a bully. This is a national disgrace. Academics, researchers, and scientists build our future. But in India, they are too often met with hostility, indifference, and, at times, with violence. Bullying is a sickness that thrives on the silence of those who witness it and the reluctance of those who suffer from it. Our intellectuals are not fighters; they are builders. They work with ideas, not fists. They seek solutions, not conflicts. Their humility and focus on knowledge make them easy targets for those who with brawn and little brain. They suffer silently, and continue doing what they are good at - scientific research for the betterment of humanity. If we do not protect them, we fail as a society. If we do not stand up to bullies, we are complicit in their crimes. If we do not value our researchers, we will lose them—to silence, to despair, or to countries that know their worth. Let’s create an India where intelligence is not bullied into submission, where kindness is not mistaken for weakness, and where those who dedicate their lives to learning are honored, not harassed. If we do not act now, another Dr. Abhishek will fall, and we will have only ourselves to blame. Can the scientific and research community do something about this? Can they?

Jagat Prakash Nadda@JPNadda

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, India is making remarkable progress in the fight against TB. Initiatives like the 100-day campaign in high-burden districts, enhanced nutritional support through Nikshay Poshan Yojana, and faster, cost-effective diagnostic tools are accelerating the country’s efforts. These steps have significantly increased treatment coverage and reduced TB incidence. The emphasis on Jan Bhagidari has united communities, ensuring timely diagnosis and treatment. India’s innovative approach is setting global benchmarks and moving the country closer to a #TBMuktBharat. #100DaysofTBElimination #TBMuktBharatAbhiyan

Times Higher Education rankings even find a place in our IoE gazette notification as aspirational. I protested at that time and was also instrumental in old 5 IITs boycotting them. I had invited IISc to join the IITs in the boycott. But they had other plans. We even had couple of meetings with THE to highlight the issues but nothing changed. Problem starts with our media highlighting such rankings on their front pages.
India Research Watch (IRW)@IRWatchdog

IISc is ranked 50th in India for Research Quality. THE rankings are boycotted by old IITs. Time for IISc to boycott it too. These rankings make absolutely zero sense and is inciting universities to indulge in scientific fraud #THERankings #THE2025 #BoycottTHE

#Dengue/ #Chikungunya are 'climate-sensitive' diseases. Factors such as the onset of the monsoon season, higher temperatures, and unpredictable rainfall create the perfect conditions for the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes to breed, which are responsible for the transmission of these diseases. Both diseases pose significant public #health concerns with common symptoms like fever, headache, joint pain, eye pain and lethargy, resulting in millions getting affected worldwide each year. It is important to take preventive measures to protect ourselves from these illnesses. #Molbio's #Truenat Dengue/Chikungunya chip-based duplex Real-Time micro PCR test provides early detection, offering rapid and dependable results that is vital in combating these life-threatening diseases. Truenat facilitates differential diagnosis resulting in better patient and disease management. #StopMosquitoBites #PublicHealth #GlobalHealth #StayHealthy #ProtectYourself

Molbio feels elated to contribute to Mozambique's healthcare system through the implementation of advanced #Truenat technology. A total of 22 Truenat devices were recently donated to #MISAU (MOH) Mozambique by @PFSCM, with additional support from CISM. Prior to the deployment of these devices in remote health facilities across various provinces, Molbio organised essential training sessions in collaboration with #PNCT (National Tuberculosis Program) to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the devices. Our team of consultants, including Trajan Mukalazi, Yvonne Kanjejo, and Eunice Akubuike, were present in Maputo, working alongside #Hospitec to provide support and empower local healthcare teams.
