I’m beyond grateful to be endorsed by the @nvassemblydems and Assemblymember @Tanya_Flanagan as I run to serve the people of District 7 again. Now more than ever, Nevadans need leaders who will expand economic opportunity and make life more affordable for working people.

For this reason, I abstained from voting on the bill in committee. After getting a recommendation from the Legislative Counsel Bureau allowing me to vote, I voted yea. I believed in this bill then and I still do today.

AB525 funded organizations doing critical work in our communities, including supporting minority-owned small businesses. Because my connection to one of the organizations--the Urban Chamber--has come into question, I want to make clear my ethical considerations ahead of voting:

1/3: Every person that we celebrate for black history was once your age. They had similar struggles and hardships to overcome. They didn’t always make the best decisions. They didn’t always get it right. Like us they had to figure out how to overcome every day. #SiXBHM

Everyone deserves an equitable shot at success, whatever way they see it regardless of their race, class, background, or even their past mistakes. We will thrive as a people when we are able to collectively recognize our power as a social & economic super power. #SiXBHM

The most direct way to disrupt anti-Black racism is to center racial equity in policy making. Authentic engagement with black communities, equitable outcomes and accountability are the ways that we, as legislators, can break down systems of racism today and in the future. #SiXBHM

We must stop the school to prison pipeline and policies that criminalize youth before they ever get a chance to thrive. My highest priority is ending the direct filing of minors into the adult judicial system. 60% of direct filed youth in NV are Black! #SiXBHM

My campaign slogan was “for Nevada’s future” so my priorities span areas creating equity and opportunities across the board. Social & Economic Justice is vitally important to the recovery of our folks from the pandemic. #SiXBHM

@stateinnovation I ran for office to make generational change for those who come behind me. The responsibility of representing my community is a weight like no other. But it’s also a privilege & an honor that deserves my full attention and a high goal to get it right. #SiXBHM
