I want hollanov's son to be obsessed w/ pink & pop stars, to be flamboyant & girly bc Shane might be gay but he still suffers from some internalized homophobia, he has no experience w/ that side of queerness, I just want him to embrace it when he sees it in his flamboyant gay son

@snoopyilya It's gonna take her time to really warm up to Shane. Svetlana is a woman of action. Smart and observant. Shane can promise her up and down that he won't hurt Ilya again but until she sees him put in the time and effort to care for Ilya, she is not going to give him a pass.

@cincave_ yes! it’s so out of character for her to immediately like him, it’s always been ilya and her, and her love for him + the way the world sees ilya makes her extremely overprotective of him. doesn’t mean she’s going to be all “hayden” about it, just… takes a while to warm up

i really want to explore their dynamic. i feel a lot of people try to make svetlana into a “cool girl who bullies ilya” but that’s a diservance to her character. she’s ilya’s best friend since childhood, has been by his side since diapers and knows him to the core.

but this kind of social capital (and econ capital!) is inaccessible to most queer people with identities too subversive for a society that idealizes a sanitized version of a queer person. the intersectionality that comes with queerness is fundamental to the struggle after all.
