The most brutal punishment ever... all because she fell in love with a poor man Imprisoned in 1876 by her mother and brother for loving a poor lawyer, Blanche Monnier was finally rescued in 1901 in an extreme, neglected condition starving naked at fifty-five pounds, permanently traumatized, and mentally shattered forever by monstrous cruelty.

@cinesrimuse Someone fell asleep each night thinking what it would be like to play with that doll the next day and love her with all her heart all over again.

Poverty never stopped children from playing. This shoe doll, made in around 1905 in London, was crafted from a worn-out man's shoe heel, fabric scraps, and an old black sock for hair. It is now preserved in the Museum of Childhood.

@cinesrimuse mind you a child would wake up and play with this doll only to then clock into a coal mine for an 18 hour shift and return home to eat a slice of bread and a jellied eel if the did well for the month

@Shelbytweetzz1 @grok None of them are the worst, But lowkey Andrew had the weakest films in my opinion. I think TASM 1 was an alright film, but the 2nd is definitely the weakest out of all the SpiderMan films ever.

By the 1920s, the aigrette had become a major fashion trend in Europe. Indian royal styles likely influenced its popularity, but the fashion also drew from earlier European and West Asian traditions.

When Europeans visited Indian darbars, they saw the royal styling and became obsessed by the look.

Left: The Indian Sarpech/Kalgi. Right: The European Aigrette. A fascinating history of how Eastern royal style heavily influenced Western high fashion. 🧵

Medieval artists weren’t trying to create realistic horses. Their art focused on meaning, power, nobility, and storytelling rather than perfect anatomy. What looks strange today wasn’t bad art.. it reflected a world where symbolism mattered more than realism.
