This is a really quick and easy but thought-provoking read. Instead of feeding our impulse to lecture and "teach," we should just fill the need. bit.ly/2VpRAc1

The dashboard shows which states have ended prison gerrymandering and, for those that haven't, allows you to see which districts are particularly gerrymandered. Select a state to learn more! tableau.com/foundation/dat…

We've been seeing some great ideas from cities & counties on how to use American Rescue Plan funds...and some really terrible ones. Here we're sharing some exciting uses local govts have proposed. #rescuetherescuefunds

To help facilitate community engagement in shaping how ARPA $$ are spent, @the_seap created a great resource highlighting different engagement/outreach tools, + case studies w/ examples of each in use. We learned a lot! theseap.org/arp-toolkit-2/

The National Conference of State Legislatures has been compiling & updating a database of how states are using their ARPA Fiscal Recovery Funds. It shows allocations by category + by who authorized (executive or legislature). It's really useful! ncsl.org/research/fisca…

Data requests should never be a one-way street. Think about the value you can get back from the request -- a report, an analysis, documentation of changes to how an element can be used. Read EDDR to learn more: bit.ly/2nP1h2G #eddata #datagovernance #edresearch

In EDDR we emphasize descriptive stats because they're accessible to a more diverse set of voices and expertise in the school and school environment. They require few assumptions to be trusted and contribute to a richer understanding of the context and strategies to move forward.

Another viz from the dashboard shows that, if incarcerated people were counted as a single district, there would be enough incarcerated folks to form an entire lower house district in 10 states: civilytics.com/posts/2021/pri…

Police involvement in schools varies across and within states. Only 3% of school districts in VT had 1+ student arrests. In contrast, in four states, >50% of school districts arrested at least one student. Check out this dashboard to learn more: tabsoft.co/3lBszVN

Not only was Salt Lake City’s policing budget greater than that of the average city in 1977 and 2017 but Salt Lake City’s police budget grew about twice as much as the average city’s during that time. See your city's spending: bit.ly/3fqZtVx #policebudget #defundpolice

This book isn't full of research literature - if there were existing resources we wouldn't have needed to write the book. We try to avoid frameworks and abstractions. We focus on practical applied knowledge you can use. bit.ly/2nP1h2G #eddata #edresearch
