“The bond vigilantes cheer austerity because their profits are highest when the economy slumps.” bafflingly stupid
James Meadway@meadwaj

Strongly recommend @DanielaGabor’s step by step account of what’s really happening with bond markets - and how to really deal with them without wishful thinking. (The “Bailey premium” we pay govt borrowing costs also deserves wider circulation.) Link below.

"This ideology is dangerous and, after over a decade of its destruction of real and important LGB activism, I’d say it’s becoming boring. Being called a bigot for challenging it certainly is, anyway." Read below: telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/05/2…

Inside the capture of the BBC, by Rob Burley (@RobBurl) In his 13 years as a senior BBC editor, Rob Burley saw the Corporation’s defining commitment to impartiality undermined by transgender ideology, a blind commitment to Diversity & Inclusion schemes, and a culture of intolerance. Informed by his experiences at Newsnight alongside other prestige shows, his major investigation reveals how the BBC took a side in the culture wars. He draws on extensive interviews with current and former staff — including journalists at the very top. Speaking out for the first time since leaving the Corporation, Fran Unsworth, the former director of BBC News, reveals in an explosive interview: “I would actually say it drove me out, just dealing with the progressive editorial issues and the bullying around them all. It was incredibly difficult.” Read more below ⬇️ buff.ly/7Fv4Ry8

@Outoftweet123 @albertedwards99 Should ask if the Bank reads its own reports. Of course in the end funds were better off thanks to the higher yields. The media persistently (deliberately?) confused risk of these vehicles going bust and the risk to pension funds of going bust. There was no risk of the latter.

@albertedwards99 Probably should ask if Claude has read every BOE quarterly report since 2018 warning of a systemic risk to Pension funds due to low interest rates, liquidity and government debt. I was certainly tweeting about it since March 2020!

Gilts are in the midst of another 'crisis'. Claude nails BoE Andrew Bailey culpability in Sept 2022 Gilt crisis that ousted PM Liz Truss. Of course, unlike the erratic Liz Truss, PM Starmer is 'Establishment' to his core. I'm sure the BoE will be keeping a close watch of events!

@albertedwards99 The icing on his shitty cake was the “I’m stopping support on Friday” announcement. Of course yields are now 100bp higher than at the very peak of what I am going to call the Bailey bust.

Zack Polanski and his partner called their narrowboat their “amazing home” for three years. He registered to vote there. If it was his main residence, council tax was due. None was paid. His team says he stayed there only “occasionally” - if true, there's a very big problem.

Today is publication day for High & Low - a novel about the awful state we’re in. Do buy it please because it may make you laugh as well as weep… it’s a satire, a thriller, and a novel about the heroism of small shops and community despite those who threaten it.RT

Yes but a much higher chance of being mugged/robbed alas.
Chris Carter@cjcjc

@AmandaPCraig A tiny tiny tiny chance of being killed in London versus merely a tiny tiny chance in NYC. On the other hand I walk through the West End after a concert or whatever and I never - literally never - see a policeman. In NYC as you know they are everywhere.

Even the nicer parts of London now feel under siege by criminals. My piece on how my new novel High & Low was inspired by the rise in shoplifting and knife crime in N London ( and the rest of the city.) RT please. telegraph.co.uk/gift/609f33a14…

What does today's Green Party want? Hatred and violence. Try Chandi Chopra, a candidate in Newcastle. Her opening came when Hollie Mildenhall “stepped down as a candidate” in March 2026. Mildenhall had been convicted of criminal damage at a defence plant in the city. 1/10

🚨 BREAKING: NATO SecGen Mark Rutte just STUNNED the Democrats, coming out in 100% support of President Trump's Iran triumph "The Commander-in-Chief, the leader of the free world, President Donald J. Trump, I REALLY commend what is happening here! Taking out Khamenei, taking out the nuclear capability and ballistic missile program in Iran." 🔥 "This is crucial. I spoke with ALL the key European leaders...there's WIDESPREAD support for the president's doing."

Just listened to incoherent commentary on @BBCr4today by the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee chair no less. UK politicians now conveniently ignoring the long held legal justification for intervention that has underpinned operations since Bosnia, and the rationale for British foreign policy thereafter, that intervention is justified by the indiscriminate murder by a regime of its own people, not to mention its sponsorship of terrorism regionally. Any IR student will explain that to you. @EmilyThornberry position is clearly a political, not a legal one.

Targeting the IRGC is not an attack on Iran or its people—it’s quite literally the opposite. It’s targeting the very force that massacred 40,000 unarmed protestors just a few weeks ago. Iranians are celebrating the strikes to dismantle the Ayatollah’s killing machine.
