Speaking of Signal boxes, the grade 2 listed signal box at Hebden Bridge will be open to the public for one day only on Sunday the 8th March. 👇yorkshirepost.co.uk/heritage-and-r…

Thank you to @NetworkRail Anglia Route for facilitating access to Grade II listed Thetford Signal Box for us and local stakeholders. We’d all like to see it restored but it does need a new use. Quirky relics of its past remain!

@ToniHol60291685 I fully understand that, even when the lights were working it can be of putting not being able to see round the corner especially if you are on your own.
English

@cleanupcalderd1 I don’t like walking that way as you just never know who you might bump into or what.
English

@ToniHol60291685 I walk it a lot, sometimes I see an off empty bag associated with drug use but I've never seen any needles. Anyway it's a pity it can't be opened up so it's less dark and attractive place for those who wish to do such things.
English

@cleanupcalderd1 I wonder how many needles get found? The other end of it is always a maze of drug paraphernalia sadly.

Every time I walk past this grade 2 listed building in #Halifax I'm disappointed that listed building consent to bring it back into use as restaurant was REFUSED! 😔 Historic England LEN: 1461524

@HistoricEngland @railway200 @MrTimDunn Many railway sites are listed such as this one in Halifax which represents how Coal was transported from rail to road! A few examples survive but most if not all are slowly falling into a state of decay.

English

Good news! 🙌 7 railway sites have been listed at Grade II to celebrate 200 years of the modern railway.
Part of a year of celebrations by @railway200, they include Woody Bay Station in Devon, here explored by railway historian @MrTimDunn.

@ABFixby I believe the building was listed but later delisted, more details later... once I find them!

I must have taken this photograph of the Old Lane Inn, Halifax, in the mid-1960s, by which time it had already closed. It briefly came back to life as Dicky Mints 20 years later, before closing again, and eventually, the building was demolished. The monumental bottle of beer painted on the gable wall should have been listed and saved for posterity.

Is this #Halifax's ugliest building ? @HXCourier
Previous plans to demolish 'Timeform House' were refused new plans are in for partial demolition!

English

@Seenhimbowlbet1 True, but on the flip side it's a statement of how much people care about their local area!

Imagine how messy #Calderdale would be without these volunteers!

@ABFixby For those interested in how it looks underground here is a facinating photographic record: 28dayslater.co.uk/threads/hebble…

The Hebble Brook has an odd relationship with the town of Halifax. Over history, it has had such a defining impact on the town, carving its valleys and draining its hills, and yet now it slips almost unnoticed towards its rendezvous with the Calder - sometimes above ground, sometimes culvert-deep in the darkness. I demand a "We Love The Hebble Day" with lantern-boats and coloured streamers.
