My latest for @thecrisismag on the continued violence against systemic black men whose names we should not know. This has been a painful two weeks, and I've had to relive incidents I'd rather not. I can’t though, b/c the issue keeps resurfacing. #BLM bit.ly/2UF6ibJ

@josemorgado He’s right tho. He gets hate from the media cause they grab the worst of his quotes when he loses. But TC never shows his personality like other players. It would certainly help his image if they showed more of him off court. Especially with all he does for the diabetes community

After looking closely at the full statistics and flow of the match between Coco Gauff and Iva Jovic in Rome, I honestly believe this match was decided far more by nerves and missed opportunities from Jovic than by dominant tennis from Gauff. Jovic was outstanding for long periods. At just 17 years old, she showed tremendous tennis IQ, excellent movement, brilliant shot-making off both wings, and very natural volleying ability. After winning the first set 7–5 and then leading 5–3 with a match point in the second set, she had the match firmly under control. Unfortunately, the pressure of the occasion eventually caught up with her. Jovic also required treatment for a blister at a crucial stage of the match, which appeared to interrupt both her rhythm and composure. The third set statistics were particularly revealing: • Only 34.8% first serves in • Four double faults in the final set alone • Won only 20% of second-serve points • Won only 26.1% of total service points The deciding set itself became chaotic, with five breaks of serve in the first five games. Those numbers tell the real story of the match. To Gauff’s credit, she stayed mentally strong, defended extremely well, and kept forcing Jovic to play one extra ball under pressure. However, Gauff’s own game was far from convincing at times, particularly off the forehand side where errors again crept into her game under pressure. Importantly, Jovic’s forehand is normally an extremely reliable shot, but as the match wore on it seemed clear that both nerves and the blister issue began affecting her timing and overall rhythm. In my opinion, Jovic largely beat herself today. That said, this may ultimately prove to be one of the most important losses of her career. Sometimes bitter defeats like this are exactly what shape future champions — and based on what I saw today, I believe Iva Jovic has the talent to become one of the great players of her generation. 🎾

@Kate__KC @Janicebuffy @JoJoFromJerz What a sycophant you must be; Swalwell and Trump can both be sexual predators, and holding them both accountable should be the norm. Of course, though you’ll ignore years and scores of allegations against the latter, while taking a dim cheap shot.

“WHAT DOES THIS PROVE?” It proves the breathtaking hypocrisy of your leftist echo chamber. You screech endlessly about Trump and decades-old allegations—like E. Jean Carroll's claim from the mid-1990s (yes, over 20 years before she conveniently dropped it in a 2019 book during his presidency), or Stormy Daniels' 2006 encounter that only became a political weapon TEN YEARS LATER when Trump decided to run for President. You drag those up, cheer on civil suits with expired statutes of limitations, treat unproven or settled claims as gospel, and act like they're disqualifying "gotchas" from ancient history. But when someone digs up a glowing 2017 tweet from your precious “JoJo” calling Eric Swalwell "handsome, smart, patriotic and real" for president—right around the time Democrats were still platforming him—you clutch pearls and whine "What does this prove??" Newsflash: It proves you only care about old news when it targets your enemies. Swalwell was banging a Chinese spy who fundraised for him, helped place an intern in his office, and got way too close for comfort during Obama’s regime. Obama’s FBI gave him a defensive briefing and he cut ties only after they flagged it. Yet he's still your party's golden boy on the Intel Committee, lecturing everyone on “ethics.” Your side spent years obsessing over "BeLieVe aLL wOmEn" (until the women accusing your guys show up, then it's "old news" or "smears"). Trump gets hit with 25+ year-old dressing-room tales turned into multimillion-dollar judgments via activist judges and convenient new laws, while actual security risks and fresh scandals on the left get memory-holed. SO FUCKING SPARE ME.

@tennisweeklypod @_Vikash This is more of an argument and concern when a player is #1 and has 0 slams (Rios, Safina, Jankovic). Their careers are nowhere near over, injuries notwithstanding, and Sinner is rankings #1 AND a current slam holder.

How do we feel about Jannik Sinner returning to No.1 with one slam title to his name in the last 12 months vs three for Carlos Alcaraz? Sinner's ATP tour consistency takes him above Alcaraz but does it make him the best in the world?

@cmnyctweet @atptour @emirates ATP has the power, as in their official statement, to plan with the locals a way of escape. Anyway, the players are luckily doing it actively and going to safely reach a safe destination. As for the flags, I stand by Ukraine in that conflict, but it's unfair to ban only a flag.

@realJeremyCarl Hmm, since the 1980s, the geopolitical world, the avenues through which athletes earn money, and how they promote themselves have changed. Some find alternatives more attractive than the U.S. Deal with it.

When I was growing up in the 1980s, If an American-born-and-raised athlete had taken millions of dollars to compete for the Soviet Union in the Olympics, there would have been no question of numerous media puff-pieces like this-- the only question would be whether he/she could walk down the street safely. And we'd be planning to strip their citizenship and deport that person ASAP. Now, Eileen Gu does this for our greatest geopolitical rival (China) and the media acts like this is somehow normal. Look, I'd never, ever do it, but there are edge cases where someone who could never compete for the U.S. team competes for somewhere else where they may be eligible for citizenship. Or an athlete who might be able to compete for the U.S. competes for another country that is not OUR BIGGEST GEOPOLITICAL RIVAL. I can wrap my head around that, even if I strongly disagree with it. But this is someone born, raised and trained in America, who could have competed for America, instead choosing to take millions of $ to give honor and glory to our authoritarian rival. It's an unthinkable betrayal of our country, and the fact that so much of our media has normalized it is a sign of major decline and decadence, at least among our "elites."

Team USA women’s hockey declining the invite to The White House, is another reason women’s sports fails to maintain whatever momentum they gain… • USWNT killed their momentum by advocating for trans rights, BLM, & kneeling for the anthem, while crying about “equal pay” • WNBA killed its momentum by cheapshotting & bad mouthing their meal ticket (Caitlin Clark), claiming her fans were racist, while crying about not getting big paychecks, though the league has never turned a profit The list goes on… Just look at all of the liberal women on this app trying to demean USA Olympic male athletes, just because the women got more individual medals than the men... Feminism has rotted their brains to think about “fEmAlE EmPoWeRmEnT”, more than celebrate Team USA as a whole. Now, those same women, and liberal media are defending Team USA women’s hockey’s AWFUL decision to ditch the honor of attending The State of the Union… Women’s sports can’t get out of their own way. Don’t be surprised that the same athletes, who have been silent about men competing in their sports, can’t put their petty politics to the side, accept an invitation to The White House, and in turn, destroy any popularity and respect gained throughout the Olympics.
