A nonce transaction is a special type of Solana transaction that doesn’t have to be sent to the network immediately. Normally on Solana, when you sign a transaction, it has a very short lifetime (about 400 milliseconds). If you don’t send it fast enough, the transaction fails with an invalid blockhash error. Nonce transactions fix this. They let you sign a transaction now and send it later. This is useful when multiple people need to sign the same transaction and they aren’t all online at the same time. One person can sign the transaction, save it, send it to the next person to sign, and so on. Once everyone has signed, the transaction can finally be broadcast to the Solana network. Important thing to remember:
Even though you can sign a nonce transaction at any time, it will only succeed when it’s sent if the wallet sending the money has enough balance at that moment. You can sign a transaction to send $1,000 today even if you don’t have it yet.. but when it’s finally sent, it will only go through if the $1,000 is actually there. For more details, you can check the official Solana docs… you can do some really INTERESTING things with these. 🙂🙂🙂
