In a very important meeting, CJA was invited to the Skokie Human Relations Commission meeting, where the antisemitic incidents reported in Skokie were deeply disturbing. Of the 15 incidents reported, 8 were antisemitic.

CJA was at Chicago City Hall for a Jewish American Heritage Month proclamation when a group of pro-Palestinian activists in keffiyehs refused to stand after the room was asked to do so out of respect for both the Pledge of Allegiance and the rabbi addressing the chamber. The overlap between those who hate Jews and those who hate America grows more obvious by the day.

CJA’s Simona Bigode revealed that while the Chicago City Council held a proclamation celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month, the council was simultaneously overseeing discussion surrounding the release of Hamas operative Salah Sarsour. At the very moment Jews were being “honored,” keffiyehs filled the room to intimidate attendees and promote rhetoric tied to terrorism. Jewish Americans should not have to celebrate their heritage under intimidation in an American city hall.

Fifty years ago in Beirut, Jocelyne Khoueiry was only 20 years old when she and six other young Christian women reportedly stood against hundreds of armed Palestinian fighters trying to storm a residential building filled with Christian families. They were outnumbered. They were surrounded. They were not supposed to survive. But they held the line. Jocelyne killed the attacking commander, and the force that had come to terrorize civilians broke and fled. The episode became so humiliating to the attackers that Palestinians later referred to it as the “little Nakba.” Jocelyne had joined the Kataeb, also known as the Phalangist Party, as a teenager and entered its militia in 1975, becoming one of Lebanon’s first prominent female fighters. Her courage inspired more than 1,500 Christian women to enlist during the Lebanese Civil War. That is what standing up looks like. Not performative outrage. Not fashionable victimhood. Not moral confusion dressed up as activism. A young woman saw her people under threat and chose courage over surrender. That is real feminism. That is real resistance. That is what it means to defend your family, your faith, and your civilization when the world expects you to be quiet.

Everyone talks about “colonizers,” but somehow skips the part where nearly a million Jews were driven out of Muslim countries across the Middle East and North Africa. Iraq. Egypt. Syria. Yemen. Libya. Algeria. Morocco. Tunisia. Iran. Ancient Jewish communities, some older than Islam itself, were stripped of property, threatened, attacked, and forced to flee. Most went to Israel. So when people say Jews should “go back where they came from,” the answer is simple: We did.
