One night, during the filming of "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" (1974), Jeff Bridges told Michael Cimino that he can't play the character of 'Lightfoot' as he is "too nice". Cimino told Bridges that he can do the part and Bridges was the best actor in the world for the part. Cimino recalled, "Jeff walked out the door reassured & I threw up".
Cimino, while discussing the film with Jeff Bridges, told that it was his job to make Clint Eastwood laugh- on and off-camera as no one had seen Eastwood laugh before.
Jeff Bridges was nominated for "Best Supporting Actor" award at the Oscars for his performance in the film.

I wasn’t given a professional paid job as an actor until I’d spent 3 years at drama school training to be ready. And even then I had to be better than the other trained candidates.
