Today marks the 106th anniversary of the founding of the @IFRC.
The IFRC, formerly called the League of Red Cross Societies, was established in 1919 in Paris at the Regina Hotel by representatives from five founding Red Cross societies 🇯🇵🇬🇧🇺🇸 🇫🇷🇮🇹.
For over 100 years, the solidarity and dedication within the IFRC network have been unwavering. Thank you to all our volunteers and our staff for remaining, always, on the side of humanity.
Together, let's continue to pave the way for more compassion for another 106 years and beyond.

Inside this ambulance: me.
I often see the outside of Red Crescent and Red Cross vehicles. I’ve never before been a patient inside one. But sometimes helpers need help too and in Homs I fell very sick. I’m grateful for the team at the @SYRedCrescent hospital in Homs, the crew inside this ambulance taking me back to Damascus and for the staff at the Al Zahera Hospital where I spent Tuesday night.
I’m now much recovered, and deeply – personally - impressed by SARC’s healthcare teams. Thank you.

I'm on the train home after a few fascinating days at @Davos talking with political, business and civil society leaders. Reimagining growth in AI era was one of the major themes this year, but I was also enthused by ideas people have about unlocking new potential in humanitarian assistance and investing in people. On safeguarding the planet and rebuilding trust-there is no shortage of ideas.

Reports from @PalestineRCS indicate that all their medical points and emergency clinics in Gaza are out of service. I am
deeply alarmed by this.
The closure of these vital medical facilities exacerbates an already dire healthcare system. These clinics and medical points are often the only lifeline for many civilians, providing essential emergency care and basic health services.
I remind all parties to ensure the protection of healthcare workers and facilities.
In the midst of crises, access to healthcare is not just a necessity—it is a matter of life and death.

This IFRC Annual Report 2023 is an overview of what the IFRC network achieved in support of millions of people, how it worked to improve and modernize its structures and approaches, and how it endeavoured to keep its volunteers and staff safe.
It gives insight into the work done to prevent disasters and to build National Society preparedness and response capacities.
It also shines a light on how the IFRC network supported communities affected by crises that devastated lives without ever making international headlines.
Together with our 191 National Societies, partners & donors, we reached millions of people.
Because the power of local humanitarian action has truly global reach. bit.ly/3rvbIcA
