In Guernsey we get yearly @GuernseyPolice campaigns against riding bicycles on pavements 🥱 Meanwhile, driving the speed limit on the pavement past gateways is normal now 🤷‍♂️ I didn’t need to mount the pavement but doing so means not needing to slow down or be inconvenienced

My day so far 8am: It’s going to be 21C today 9am: I cycle past a heavily policed Just Stop Oil protest 10am: Shell confirms it paid no tax on North Sea oil this quarter 12pm: UN predicts 2.5C global heating & catastrophic extreme weather 4pm: Rishi Sunak will not attend COP27

I am not surprised by @HeidiSoulsby decision but am disappointed that she feels compelled to do so as it is an enormous loss of talent and experience for the senior committee.

Genuinely sorry to read this, says an awful lot. Let's hope @HeidiSoulsby "will be able to make more of a positive contribution to the future of Guernsey outside of the Committee."

THREAD: Energy Bill Support Grant. I have just been notified that I will get £67 a month off my energy bills under the govt scheme. For enormous numbers of people this support will be absolutely vital. But it won't be vital for everyone, and that includes me. (PLS RT) 1/

@HeidiSoulsby @matt_fallaize @edgregson @BailiwickGsy I concerned that these ideas are going to divert officers from valuable work in order to explain (again) why the ideas are at fault. If the gang of 2 then want to amend so be it.

@matt_fallaize @edgregson @BailiwickGsy It’s all noise. E&I are currently developing an electricity strategy which will come to the States next year and Members will decide what further research should be undertaken on the back of that. I wouldn’t want officers sidetracked right now.

@ShaneLanglois @advocategreen1 In light of the budget pressures and systemic deficit, the fact we missed the opportunity to have a much less expensive and more cost-effective secondary education model that would also have greatly improved our educational offer hurts increasingly, as a taxpayer & as a parent.

The most annoying element of today's population debate were the calls to trust the subject experts at Home Affairs. As it happens I do, but where is the reciprocity from the governing junta in respect of ESS, STSB, E&I? Complete double standards. Getting used to it now though.

@gavinstpier @letocq @HeidiSoulsby Will be an interesting debate given lack of Alderney's funding options and maybe a few amendments to hurry it along given sp much political flip flopping

Some initial observations: 1. no economic analysis; 2. why do @letocq and @HeidiSoulsby not support? 3. 'reasonable and robust' not defined in funding agreement TBD between 2 islands; 4. Alderney has no access to capital funding separate from revenues in 1948 common pot.

@damienguard @richarddigard @stevestreeting @oldfarmhorace @KARP1 It's not just tourists-it's about getting people to work here & able to visit family & friends back home. Agreed need reduced housing costs too (don't get me started given my statements 2016-2020). Also win for islanders & CAA requirement for extension mustn't be underestimated.

@KARP1 @richarddigard Haven't we had enough reports saying the numbers add up? Just mentioned private jets as one example of extra income over and above the usual arguments.

@dawnatindall @richarddigard Not seeing private jets adding to economy nor benefiting community widely. No case for extension without numbers independently audited first. Otherwise, just wishful thinking I'm afraid.
