When crude oil prices come down in the international market, these companies do not reduce petrol and diesel prices in the same way. Instead, they keep the extra profit for themselves. Increasing fuel prices immediately after the Assembly elections in five states is unfair. This price hike will affect poor people, middle-class families, lower-income groups, and small businesses. I was today years old when I found out India imports nearly 55–60% of its edible oil consumption 😭 India imported around 15.6–16 million tonnes of edible oils in 2023–24, making it the world’s largest edible oil importer. Most of it comes from Indonesia & Malaysia (palm oil), and Argentina/Brazil (soybean oil), along with sunflower oil imports from countries like Russia and Ukraine. Despite being an agricultural giant, we still heavily depend on imports just to meet everyday cooking oil demand lmao.
