Super excited for the new Gears game however I see some stupid comments surrounding the new female character. Gears has always had female characters. My only issue is that she is very butch looking and it would be nice to see a feminine looking female be badass.

Just wanted to put it out there, simply misremembering details to some of these people will have them calling you a larp, lol. Yeah I played gears since day 1 but I checked out a bit on 4, 5, and the spin offs. That's when my knowledge gets a little thin. I wasn't invested as much in them at that point.

Because you don't know the lore of Gears of War. The war against the locust was so bad that women had to fight. There are pretty much two classes of women. The fertile women typically couldn't fight because they were needed for breeding farms to produce genetically strong offspring. The non fertile women also known as Barrens were thrown into the front lines to fight. Pretty much everyone had to be useful and contribute in some way. That's how brutal the Gears world is.

Why do you care if people want attractive characters. Video games are a fantasy for people to escape to and people like pretty things.

Your point? A bunch of female characters are made butch now a days. Why arent men made unattractive. Even when they are older like Leon Kennedy they look sexy. To your point they dont have to be "fuckable" but they also dont have to look masculine or intentionally made ugly.

@UpToTASK Well personally I like men so not beating anything to women. However why can't a female character be attractive, feminine and be badass. This making female characters masculine in order to be badass is a bad thing.

@DaddyWade616 Any fan already knew that there were no playable female characters in Gear1. I am talking about her in comparison to the ones we had playable females like Anya, Sam, Sofia, Alicia who still looked good when they were playable. So im not getting your point

She was also training to be a medic. She was not pulled from her job, she chose to be a soldier.

The Blonde Hair and Redhead weren't soldiers; they were taken from their non-combat positions, such as communications dispatch, and thrown into the front line. That is the difference between the women who always fought on the front line and the other women who never originally did.

@DaddyWade616 Im not sure what your comment has to do with what i said but being playable or not there were women shown in the Gears universe through the series. While not playable, we did have Anya in Gears 1. Also women were shown in the comics like Alex Brand and a gang of women

Have you ever played Gears? You post Anya, then ignore the fact that Bernadette is in the same game. No, a game doesn't have to be real, but the creators also established rules in their world. Anya and Bernadette are examples of a Woman who worked in Headquarters vs. a Woman on the field in this Universe.

@MugenLord @Antykill_ This is actually a bad photo to use as an argument cause Sam had just gone through 25 yrs of "peace" so this is just aging cause at the end of gears 3 she looked great and had helped defeat the Locust horde. Bernie younger looked amazing and had fought in wars since she was 18

You really didn't think this through, or you don't know much about Gears. Anya looks more feminine because she was never on the frontline. She was mostly in communications and dispatching. She was later thrown into the front lines in Gears 3. You completely ignored the fact that this rough woman here is in the same game Anya is in. This is Bernadette, and yes, she is a rough-looking woman. It makes sense in this Universe. This woman saw more action than Anya. Their appearances represent that. It's called world-building and character development. So, this kind of look is not out of place in a Gears game. The problem will mostly come down to how these kinds of female characters are written. This series has novels, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are more female Cogs like Bernadette.

@MugenLord I will say is that in reality women shouldn't look battle hardened cuz this is the beginning which means women should look more feminine compared to a Bernie Mataki. However they could make it that the new female is war hardened background wise cuz she fought in the Pendulum war
