I had the privilege of visiting Khiva, the home of Al-Khwarizmi — often called the founder of Algebra. Standing in the place where he once lived reminded me of the power of his book Al-Kitab al-Mukhtasar fi Hisab al-Jabr wal-Muqabala, which gave us the very word “algebra.” It’s inspiring to connect this history with the way we continue teaching math today.

Growing up in Colombia🇨🇴, as many ss in LatAm, I learned algebra via the work of Cuban🇨🇺 mathematician Aurelio Baldor. After the revolution, he migrated to Mexico🇲🇽 then the US🇺🇸 where he was able to teach again👨‍🏫 #HispanicHeritageMonth #ITeachMath #MTBoS #Math #STEM #Hispanidad
