@earnwithash @memphisnews That is indeed true, but it still seems like an astounding coincidence that Carruthers spoke of planning extreme acts of violence "to make the streets pay me" after his release, and then 3 of his acquaintances were horrifically slain when his release come to fruition.

Tony Carruthers execution as been called off (according to report from @memphisnews) as of now....the executioners were not able to find a vein after multiple attempts 😯 ... Do you think he committed this crime?

@earnwithash @memphisnews The problem with DNA testing that is isn't entirely infallible, and I've that DNA samples sometimes greatly deteriorate depending how they're stored, which can greatly compromise the results.

@Henodon3535 @memphisnews Montgomery's statement isn't the absolute proof ... it's the reason to test the proof (the crime scene DNA).

@earnwithash @memphisnews From my understanding, Montgomery constantly flips his story between admitting guilt and pushing that he was framed over the past two decades. I understand where you are coming from on this, but he doesn't seem like a reliable source in my opinion

@Henodon3535 @memphisnews So the question becomes ... was he telling the truth because Carruthers threatened him, or because prosecutors threatened him? The jury never knew he was paid. That changes everything about how his testimony should be weighed.

@Henodon3535 @memphisnews Shaw was a paid confidential informant the state hid for 30 years. He also only agreed to testify for the prosecution after they threatened him with perjury charges if he recanted....

@Henodon3535 @memphisnews ....the courts had to rule on his mental competency right up to this week. Either way ... character doesn't replace physical evidence. And there is none tying him to that scene.

@earnwithash @memphisnews From the archived articles I've read last year, it seemed like his behavior was that of a volatile man trying to control the proceedings, and some of his tactics really gave the impression of him trying to force his associates into covering his tracks.

@Henodon3535 @memphisnews Agreed - his behavior was volatile the court record confirms it. But volatile behavior and guilt are two different things legally. His 2026 attorneys argued that behavior stemmed from serious paranoid delusions...

@Henodon3535 @memphisnews I'm not sympathetic to him in that I think he's a good person...I just think since there is no physical evidence linking him to the crime then he should not be on death row and crime scene DNA evidence should be tested 🤷‍♀️

@earnwithash @memphisnews None of this necessarily means he's guilty, but so much of that information has been omitted or downplayed by the ACLU and outlets quoting them seemingly to make him more sympathetic to their readers.

@Henodon3535 @memphisnews I am not implying Carruthers is a perfect angel ... however when it comes to deathrow/execution, due process is deserved of all American citizens. He's served over 25+ years in prison & his co-defendent Montgomery (out of prison on a plea deal) admitted Carruthers didn't do it

@earnwithash @memphisnews According to archived newspaper articles I've read, Carruthers repeatedly threatened the lives of 6 defense attorneys assigned to his case, which is why the courts made him represent himself.
