Users of Eeko will always have to pay a subscription yes. The model for devs and artists is not yet finalised but we want to to be flexible and transparent. The code however will belong to you and the agreement you make with your clients will be yours to make. There might be a different model for widgets published to the marketplace vs private widgets sold direct to clients..

Official update for our community : We are not shutting down! StreamElements is in conversation with an amazing partner aligned around one thing: working in the interest of creators and the community. Your tools and data are safe. We've secured funding while partner integration is underway, and pending creator payments will roll out over the coming weeks. More information soon, i'm sure you’ll like it. -Perry

Our main homepage is very much focused on our primary user (streamers) and really describes about 20% of what the platform can do! There is a totally different side to the platform we’ve not released yet that is focused on developers and artists. Some artists can’t code so they can use AI to help them bring their designs to life. Some developers might want to use our AI (or bring their own) to speed up their widget development! Or both don’t use the AI at all and can make use of our SDK and local development harness to hand craft widgets and automations! (Hosted and distributed by us)

@eekoapp Mais de ce que je vois, le gros avantage de votre plateforme c'est de faire coder le widget par l'IA ? Comment mon expérience pourrait etre utile ?

@Mystery_Celeste Streamerbot is a great project if local is what you’re oooking for! Over at Eeko we are proudly cloud first and our systems built around you having to do as little local as possible! Maybe we aren’t for you in the long run but we’d love for you to try us out!

@eekoapp First time I've heard of Eeko 👀 My primary request is having widgets be something we can run/use locally without the use of additional 3rd party sites - StreamerBot is more locally run and could run the widgets if they were built out for it (or other local clients!) :D

My take: Widget Creators: Keep creating your widgets either using your own platform + StreamElements, make your widgets Local-use, make your Widgets for StreamerBot integration. We shouldn't have to rely on a single platform for the widgets to function as intended 🍪

StreamElements surviving is GREAT but now I’m here after days building my own widget hosting platform like… what now 🫥

Seeing all these new @StreamElements replacements popping up makes me realize that people in this space truly don't understand the cost, scale, and value of what goes into building these types of platforms. You want multiple users, either use oauth or roll you're own auth, both are fragile in their own rights. Want to host other users' content, moderation/legal becomes a minefield of risk that already tanks your idea that it's just some platform. Want to host a WebSocket, these are deceivingly easy but once you get past a few people the scaling and cost become quick to add up including if you are using @Cloudflare as your provider. You want to support custom widgets better be ready to handle latency, unstable connections and more. If you're server is overseas and the clients, you server are in the US they will "love" that massive high latency to load the widget. Hosting the static assets/widgets on the edge is smart but now you get into the world of egress cost, unoptimized image serving, and even just cache in general. At first, I was confused at how @StreamElements was at 300,000/mth in hosting but then I did the math and realized it wasn't there compute, storage or any of that it was there egress costs WebSocket's are massive sinks. This all reminds me of when I worked on IFCE systems and had to load web portals over a GEO connection from 35,000ft while the aircraft was moving at 500+mph it's expensive, it's slow, and it's also deceivingly easy to shoot yourself in the foot so bad you lose every piece of profit you've made. Unless you actually understand what goes into these platforms and their cost to scale and host do not make one you plan to share with people. You will drown in so many problems you will not dig yourself out because you tied everyone to that eco system you created. By time your 100+ users start making overlays and us the platform you're already in massive hosting technical debt from the cost to build the server(s) even if you used GoDaddy for their simple webhosting that solves nothing it just moves the problem to you can't maintain at that size. You could use serverless like vercel or something else those are just traps in the long run because you are building something that functionally doesn't work in those worlds. Please just think before you build something you functionally don't understand. If you want to do it as a experiment to learn the ins and outs sure but don't release it because you will be humbled ruined mentally & technologically. A widget is easy try and make a websocket work across different browsers or make sure the same site works the same across Safari, Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. I say this as someone who runs a website on their homelab that currently sites at 1.4m unique page requests per month. And have a project in the loop that's called Anput.dev in private beta that is a widget distribution platform that has to account for all of this and more.

This is great news for the Streaming World. We will still continue the importer so that streamers have more options available for free and we will be adding a lot more on top of what was previously there like Tip Jars, Stream Bosses, Multi Platform Hype Trains, and more!

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you don't need to use Streamlabs Desktop or Ultra to use our alerts, widgets, chat bot, overlays, or tips. If you stream with OBS, we also support OBS directly through our plugin and browser sources. And if you're looking to move over existing StreamElements setups, we built an importer to help make that easier. We just want to help creators keep their streams running smoothly. bit.ly/4v0nYgj
