@amanpour @mattpottinger China's interest is stability. An agrarian US under societal collapse is not a good thing for China and they don't want that.

Just saw this at a local theater. While the movie is far from perfect, I did not hate it. My excpections were pretty low to be honest, but would be a movie I would see again. I enjoyed Tron Legacy more, but felt like this one not as bad as some are saying, at least that is how I felt after watching it.

"In response to the latest calls, we’ve shared and are formally assessing a simplified mission architecture and concept of operations that we believe will result in a faster return to the Moon while simultaneously improving crew safety." @SpaceX confirms they are working on an expedited Artemis III approach - I wonder what it could be? Stubby Starship?

To me, this is the most important part of @BedoyaUSA's incredible essay. So many times I've been in rooms of liberal friends who would never support a candidate who was bad on, say, gay rights, but have zero discernment when it comes to issues of economic power. This must change.

@AlexTaylorNews It's not pretty. Portugal's average salary is €1200 after tax/€1700 before tax. House prices are at UK levels and food, at least around urban areas, also. But better to have a surplus than bankruptcy like in 2014.

NEWS: OpenAI says it will spend over $1 trillion to build computing warehouses across the U.S. and abroad. Each gigawatt of capacity is expected to cost roughly $50 billion, meaning the company is laying the groundwork for at least $1 trillion in infrastructure spending. Demand is likely to eventually reach closer to 100 gigawatts, one company executive said, which would be $5 trillion. Below is a picture of OpenAI's new 1,100 acre site in Texas, where more than 6,000 workers labor on the project each day, including electricians, plumbers, and steel welders, alternating between two 10-hour shifts, seven days a week. OpenAI says it will be the largest AI supercomputing complex in the world. “I don’t think we’ve figured out yet the final form of what financing for compute looks like,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said. “But I assume, like in many other technological revolutions, figuring out the right answer to that will unlock a huge amount of value delivered to society.” - WSJ

@ProfHall1955 This article follows similar lines, showing how Chinese industrial subsidies create jobs, industries, and consumer value, while the US approach creates mostly shareholder value. Very much worth a read. asiatimes.com/2024/07/chinas…

The WSJ's 'chief economics commentator' tells us that, compared to the US market-driven economy, China is 'inefficient' regarding its 'returns on capital'. 90% of the top 500 US companies are selling loan debts, insurance policies, customer lists, brand logos etc. while China builds bridges, roads, houses, thorium salt reactors etc. and manufactures 30% of the world's tangible goods worth $4.6 trillion. But reality doesn't matter to these clown-ghouls. Only 'returns on capital' to shareholders. x.com/greg_ip/status…

10. Fire services, flood insurance, policing, old person’s medical payments, weather forecasting, sending mail, and global positioning are done by the state. I don’t hear a lot of “Marxism!” when people open up Google Maps and find driving directions.
