UPDATE: Our Wireless Network Operations team has issued a workaround that should allow data services to resume normally; customers may need to toggle Airplane/Flight mode on their devices, or perform a power cycle for the change to take effect.
If you are still encountering problems, please call 1-800-SASKTEL (727-5835) for further support. #skoutage

We are aware of an issue impacting multiple cellular data customers in various locations across the province. We have not yet identified the cause but are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible. We thank you for your patience at this time. #skoutage

@alexkusenko a short video demonstrating why direct downwind cart can only exceed wind speed for a limited amount of time proportional with that amount of initial stored energy youtube.com/watch?v=ZdbshP…

@eevblog @janine_hendry Nuclear is just more expensive and complex than Solar. The cost of the fuel is nothing (at the moment) compared to all other costs.

Let's run the numbers...
67kg of fuel per day per 1GW reactor. Or $20k/day in fuel costs per day per 24GWh.
A solar farm is about $1/W installed, or $1BN / GW installed cost base. Amortise that cost over say 25 years and that 1GW solar farm "costs" $109k/day. BUT, in terms of kWh energy output per day you only get 1/4 AT BEST compared to a nuclear reactor that runs 24hrs/day.
So let's be realistic, factorig in seasonal variation and weather you need a multiple of at least 10 here. We can apply that multiple in various ways, but we'll add it to the "cost" of solar to make it simple to understand. So lets's multiply that $109k/day by 10 to get say $1M/day solar "cost" in terms of actual Wh energy output.
So the nuclear plant "saves" about ($1M-$20k) $980k/day, but we haven't factored in the build cost yet, so let's do that. That $980k/day gets you a build budget of $8.9B for 25 years. You can build one for that, and maybe operate it too?
So nuclear is probably "cheaper" or at least roughly on par with solar over over 25 years. But a nuclear plant lasts way longer than that. Not factoring in maintenance or disposal costs for either solution of course.
ALSO remember that nuclear buys you guaranteed consistent base load power, and that's invaluable to grid stability.
So don't be so hasty with a flippant "cost" argument.

The dexterity is quite something. Totally needs some googly eyes.
Early days, but quite promising.
I wonder what's limiting the speed?

@jasonfenske13 I have a hard time explaining this problem to people. I will highly appreciate if you can maybe make a video on the subject. Even considering sponsoring the video if I can afford. youtube.com/watch?v=ZdbshP…

@XylaFoxlin how much will you want as compensation to make a short video showing the effect in my video. So use your cart and a 240FPS camera to be able to calculate the cart acceleration and speed youtube.com/watch?v=ZdbshP…

@engwithrosie I have experimental evidence that the explanation to how Blackbird direct downwind faster than the wind cart actually works and is very different from your explanation youtube.com/watch?v=ZdbshP…

YouTube
English

@alexkusenko check the experimental evidence that direct down wind cart uses energy storage to exceed wind speed meaning it slows down as shown in the video after stored energy is used up (just 2 Joule's)

Pro Tip:
If you are an engineer and go to someone in any technical field (doctor, tradie, supplier etc ), tell them you are an engineer, ask smart technical questions & that you want the technical explanation.
If their faces don't light up then that's someone who's likely incompetent and is best avoided.

@ElectroBOOMGuy Electrical energy doesn't flow through a capacitor but in a capacitor when charged and out of a capacitor when discharged.

@ElectroBOOMGuy @veritasium I will love to have a chat Mehdi. I'm fairly sure I can explain why Derek is completely wrong and electrical energy travels through wire not outside, both for DC and AC/transient. Energy flows in a capacitor not through it when charged.

@CavallaroRick @kilroi22 @alexkusenko @veritasium No that is not why he lost $10k. He lost because he did not understand the vehicle has an energy storage device and without knowing that you can not explain why vehicle exceeds wind speed at all.
