At the end of the first quarter of every University of Iowa home football game, the entire stadium—including coaches, referees, and over 70,000 fans—pauses to turn and wave directly at the pediatric patients and families watching from the windows of the adjacent UI Stead Family Children's Hospital. Known as the "Hawkeye Wave," this incredibly wholesome gesture has been widely celebrated as one of the best and most touching traditions in all of college sports.

On opening day, the Boston Red Sox posted this video. It had unintended consequences. It showed what the 1950's looked like and what we have lost. If you haven't seen it, watch! It is eye opening what our government has taken from us

Found this early 70’s promo shot of my Dad today. Young pilot, Hawaiian aircraft backdrop, pure vintage cool. ✈️🤙🏼 Crazy how a single photo can freeze an entire era in time

Before Britpop, before power ballads, before arena rock took over... there were The Hollies. One of the tightest harmony groups of the entire 1960s, and somehow they still don’t always get mentioned enough in the “greatest bands” conversations. "Long Cool Woman" "He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother" "Bus Stop" "Carrie Anne" "The Air That I Breathe" The catalog is stacked. What is your favorite song by The Hollies?

I'm 53 poppet. There were no McDonald's KFC or Dominoes when I was a kid When I went to comprehensive school my art class teacher asked who'd had Lasagne. A third of the class put their hands up. I didn't even know what it was You're deluded
Raven@raven_brah

Boomers seem to forget that fast food used to be a normal, everyday expense for them because it was affordable. You could get a burger easily on minimum wage, it wasn’t some fancy treat you had once a year as a reward for pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.

@HistorianUSA1 When I was a teen living on Oahu (the family stayed there the year my Dad flew in Vietnam) and we would see staff cars in driveways we knew- POW, MIA or KIA. GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS and their families.

A doorbell camera captures two Soldiers—one a battle-hardened Sergeant Major, the other an officer—standing at a family’s door in full dress uniform. They wait with quiet dignity, heads up, eyes steady. The weight of what they’re there to do is written on their faces. They’re not delivering good news. As we approach Memorial Day, it’s easy to post flags and barbecues. But this is the real cost. Since our nation’s founding, as many as 1.4 million American service members have made the ultimate sacrifice—fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters—who never came home. Every Gold Star family knows that knock. Every folded flag, every name on a wall, every empty seat at the table carries a story of love, duty, and unbearable loss. Tonight I’m praying for every family who’s ever answered that door. For every name we must never forget. And for the brave men and women in uniform who still carry the hardest mission of all: telling a family their hero is gone. We owe them everything. Freedom isn’t free. It’s given by the blood of patriotic heroes.

One of the most uplifting rock songs of the early 70s came from a band formed after The Zombies broke up. But did you know "Hold Your Head Up" was built around themes of confidence, perseverance, and resilience? "Hold Your Head Up" was recorded by Argent, led by Rod Argent, the same musician behind "She’s Not There," "Tell Her No," and "Time of the Season." Released in 1971, it became Argent’s biggest hit and turned into an anthem about standing tall and refusing to let the world drag you down. Skip or listen to this one?

I have no ancestors known to me that arrived after 1776 and I’ve done extensive family history (much of which I post on my account). I am not rare, this is normal for Southerners. We are not related to the Ellis Island folks.
Nick Gerteis@nickgerteis

@AppyOrtho So your entire family tree solely traces back to ancestors that were here before 1776? Not just many of them, or most of them—all of them? That is not impossible, but it would be extremely rare and quite frankly unlikely.

This is Chick 'n Ruth in Annapolis, Maryland! This is a very patriotic diner. They all stand up for the Pledge of Allegiance! On weekdays they recite it at 8:30 am and on weekends at 9:30 am. I have to try this place. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 I heard the food is really good.

"Your surgery has been cancelled." That is the exact message UPMC sent directly to a patient via email because his employer runs a self-funded plan that refused to play their PPO pricing games. They demanded $33,873.40 upfront instead. They thought they could hold his health hostage to force a payout. They picked the wrong plan. What we did: 1️⃣ Caught them in writing violating IRS 501(r) Extraordinary Collection Action rules 2️⃣ Copied the IRS Tax-Exempt Division and the State AG directly on the thread. 3️⃣ Handed the patient the legal scripts to protect themselves. UPMC's team never bothered to answer our compliance questions after we copied the PA AG and IRS. Meanwhile, in the background, the patient was quietly routed to another facility. His surgery was successfully completed yesterday. The employer's capital is protected. The patient is safe and will not face financial ruin. The healthcare cartel loses. It's just execution. Posted in full with patient's permission.
