Stop calling it an "upload". People don't understand what upload means in computing and in the long chain of future technology this is going to encourage mass suicide unless it's made clear. This is a copy, nothing has been actually moved. When you "move" data in a computing system, it's copied to the new location and then deleted from the original. Fundamentally, there is no way to avoid teletransportation paradox death in computing. We should never allow an "upload" of human beings that is destructive to the original, if we develop this technology for human brains, it would be murder. There's a real risk here that something like a social norm is established that encourages upload-based euthanasia for healthy people and we need to avoid that.

We are just passing through the peak of another covid wave in the US (and the world). You may have noticed many people saying they've had a "bad cold" recently. Even mild covid infections result in neural inflammation for 2-6 months after the acute infection, so we can expect a population-level increase in aggression and impulsivity over the next few months. Knowledge workers are likely to see a decline in the quality of their work - lawyers tend to be the most visibly affected, because their work has stringent quality requirements and unlike programmers, no compiler checks. Double-check the quality of any legal work you have done over the next few months. Most people won't understand this post but if you do, you know what I'm talking about. Protect yourself and stay safe. Hopefully there won't be another wave over the holidays.
