Here are a few thank you notes from the 3rd graders at Griffin. It was so special introducing the students to organismal biology and giving back to the community that laid an important foundation for me. Can’t wait to continue engaging in K-12 outreach for years to come! 🐟

Always such a pleasure presenting at Career Days around the Los Angeles area, especially at my old elementary school, Griffin Ave! Major shoutout to my mom for arranging my presentations at both Griffin and Utah Elementary over the past few weeks ☺️

@rcthomson Thanks Bob! No turtles in the lakes on San Salvador Island so fish will have to do!

So thrilled to see that our project exploring several popular hypotheses about how adaptive radiations start and proceed using a perfectly peculiar pupfish radiation is now published! pnas.org/content/118/20…

@HortaQuentin Thanks Quentin! Artic Charr are a really fun fish radiation as well and I always look forward to seeing your work on them pop up!

@DurkinSylvia Thanks Sylvia! You definitely had a front row seat to the action - of me incrementally fiddling with the aesthetics - like watching paint dry

Parallel to our findings that this seemingly small and localized radiation is a product of a complex network of genetic variation spread across many populations in time and space - this project is the result of many people that i am so grateful to have worked with!

@frogsicles Oh man that coagulation action was jaw dropping. Half the time I can’t get jello to set nearly well as that. That was an extremely enjoyable 20 minutes, thanks Becca!

Our new @molecology paper shows that genes under selection between species are misexpressed in F1 hybrids doi.org/10.1111/mec.15… Regulatory incompatibilities may promote rapid speciation by simultaneously affecting adaptive trait divergence and reducing hybrid fitness

@frogsicles @GrantKinsler @KSamerotte @PetrovADmitri Woah! What a different, cool genotype-phenotype-fitness approach than the bottom-up approaches we discussed and I like the directional selection enhances phenotypic diversity/local modularity but global pleiotropy perspective. Thanks for sharing Becca!
