I need y'all to help me settle a debate. I sold my company for enough money to never work again, yet I still refuse to fly First Class. What would you do? I was on a long flight back from SFO to Nashville the other day and my buddy Eugene and I were texting and he happened to see I was sitting in seat 34D. He knows how much I sold my last company for, so his reaction of shock and awe (or was it disgust?) was priceless. It actually made me think - why I am doing this? Why am I sitting in the back of this plane sandwiched between 2 people with my knees jamming this tray table when I could be sitting upfront comfortably? And, I honestly, don't know or don't want to admit it maybe? What I would tell you (and I don't even know this is fully true) is that it connects me to where I came from. That it binds me to my childhood, to my parents, to who I always was and still AM - even though my financials are different now. There will always be a part of me that is that poor kid that grew up in a small town in Southern Indiana who didn't even get on a plane until his 20's because we couldn't afford it. Orrrrr, maybe I'm just cheap?! lol. And I don't just travel sometimes - I travel a lot. (Enough to be a @Delta Diamond Medallion member!) My friends say all sorts of things - you are: 1. Insane. 2. Cheap. 3. Humble. 4. Confusing. 5. Authentic. 6. Under-optimizing. But - think about it - why did Warren Buffet (the richest man in the world at the time) drive a 20 year old car and live in the same house as the one he owned before he was rich? Why does @elonmusk sleep on buddy's couches or rent a home instead of buying a mega mansion or even ten mega mansions? Are they insane? Do they not know how to appreciate money? Are they "cheap"? I'm curious: what would you do?

While eBay doesn't keep Amazon up at night, anyone building better shopping experiences should. It's an area Amazon hasn't figured out. If barriers to delivering comparable buying experiences come down, then Amazon might find itself actually competing again in core categories.
