*Why that myth hurts:* 1. It blames you for something you had zero control over 2. It turns twins into something scary instead of special 3. It makes people stare, whisper, or treat you differently

31st May, today, reminds me how exactly 20 years ago, on this day in 2006, I landed at Heathrow Airport in London to start work at the @commonwealthsec Secretariat as a Communications Officer and Assistant Spokesperson for Africa. The journey had started on 6th February, 2006, when I responded to an advert in the @TheEconomist magazine, submitting my application by airmail at the Post Office, along Kampala Road. Two months later on 3rd April, 2006, an HR officer at the Commonwealth reached out to inform me that I had made it on the final shortlist of four people that included a Briton, a Jamaican, and Trinidad and Tobagan and yours truly from the Pearl of Africa. After interviews over two days, on 11th and 12th April, 2006, I was informed that I was the successful candidate. I reported to office on 5th June, 2006, starting a 9 year career that opened many doors, introduced me to many professional mentors, gave me exposure around the world, skilled me in global PR and communications. The experience, however, also showed me that wherever we go: East or West, Home is the Best. And in January 2015, I returned to Uganda to continue serving motherland, reconnect with friends and family. #KeepingHopeAlive.

Today, I received members of the Vitiligo Association of Uganda (VAU), and we discussed how to strengthen support for people living with vitiligo. This non-contagious skin condition affects many Ugandans, yet it is still surrounded by myths, stigma, and limited access to care. I commend the association’s tireless work in education, community outreach, and patient support. I assured them that @Parliament_Ug will use its mandate to bring this issue to the attention of stakeholders. I have tasked the Committee on Health to look into it, and I personally pledge to champion the cause.

By providing sunscreen and other resources, we're helping our members take control of their skin health and reducing the impact of vitiligo on their daily lives. Thanks to @SNUPA6 and @albinismumbrell for giving us sunscreen and @glenmarkpharma for the Tacrolimus ointments.
