I’m sick of people trying to gaslight everyone by telling them “we’ve always had fires in Alberta.” Of course, we’ve always had fires. But the last few years are off the charts. I grew up here. The average used to be 12 HOURS of smoke cover in a summer. Now it’s days and weeks.

This is an Alberta Emergency Alert. Environment Canada has issued a tornado alert . This alert is in effect for all communities between Wetaskiwin and Calgary, that are west of Veteran's Memorial Highway 36 and east of the foothills (see detailed map in link). Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible. Thunderstorms may develop in the foothills later this afternoon. If they develop, they will become severe with very large hail, very strong winds, and a risk of a tornado. This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Tornado watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. What happened today in the United States was horrifying. It’s incumbent upon all of us to stand united in condemning the violence against former President Trump and his supporters. We can disagree vigorously and stand for what we believe in, but violence has absolutely no place in democratic politics. I’m deeply disturbed to see people have been injured and killed, and I’m sending my thoughts to all those impacted.

The destruction of legal aid fits a clear pattern: the UCP government is unable to prioritize or negotiate basic agreements that hold our health, social services, and (now) justice systems together. I dont think it's calculated. Rather, Hanlon's Razor applies:

Mickey Amery has released an updated statement apparently claiming that the UCP will continue existing funding for legal aid... But not without casting some pretty major aspersions and legal shade. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli
