@Rlufc96 I find it weird too! It’s as if they have never been to London before? London has 100s of great pubs within a ten minute tube ride. And yet they choose to drink cans. And where do they go for a piss?

@DonnyGav7 @henrywinter “What can a bloke with an I-phone influence on the pitch?” Quite a lot, or that would appear to be what the Southampton hierarchy obviously believe. Otherwise, why send him, and risk Saints season by doing so???

@forza_pt @henrywinter The advantage in fielding an unregistered player is that they can influence a game, a tackle, a save, a goal, etc? What can a bloke with an I-phone influence on the pitch? 11 v 11 once they’re on that pitch, anything can happen?

At some point, those running Southampton are going to have show proper accountability and some humility. Apologise to their fans, and reimburse them their Wembley expenses. Apologise to the clubs they spied on. And take their medicine. Then clear out those who sanctioned the spying. Only then can Southampton start rebuilding their damaged reputation. They may well be waiting until after the appeal before making a statement and a proper show of contrition. But extended silence simply deepens the stain on the club's reputation. (Even a holding statement would have been something). It's not fair on their fans, the ones who will still be there long after current coaches, players, sporting directors and owners have moved on. Southampton were traditionally one of the most-respected clubs in the game. Good support, developed players, attractive football. Saints. Not now. Not until there’s full accountability, publicly. Silence only adds to the shame. Pity. Good club but badly led on this. #SaintsFC

Worth noting too that Southampton knew all of this detail when they released their statements complaining about the punishment and describing the Bielsa offence as ‘similar.’ It’s incredibly hard to marry that with the findings of the commission. Two offences not on same planet.
Steve Crossman@Steve_Crossman

Forget spying for a sec, it’s the treatment of interns that stands out here, by far the most serious offence. A top down system of pressurising young people, deemed ‘deplorable’ by the commission. Also the intern who was at MFC spoke to the commission, must have been through hell

@MikeBrownJourno It would appear that young Mr Salt demonstrated better judgement and higher standards than that of the #saints management team. I hope someone is looking after him

Wonder if any of the former players and pundits who've been saying that Southampton's punishment was too harsh, might feel a bit daft reading this. I doubt it of course. Boro exposing this and then fighting their corner has been undoubtedly good for the game
EFL Communications@EFL_Comms

The Independent Disciplinary Commission’s written reasons in respect of Southampton FC have now been published. Yesterday (Wednesday 20 May) a League Arbitration Panel dismissed Southampton’s appeal against the Independent Disciplinary Commission’s sanction. The League Arbitration Panel’s written reasons will be published in due course. Read more: efl.com/news/2026/may/…

@saintspins I know it was “only” £200,000 but we were fined for an offence that didn’t exist. We were done for not acting in “good faith”. Why is diving to obtain a penalty, time wasting, pressuring a referee, feigning injury, which we see EVERY Saturday, not acting in good faith?

If the EFL had any balls whatsoever they would just promote Hull automatically. Putting Boro into the final just create's another headache should they beat Hull, when Hull have been preparing to face us for the last 10 days. £200k for Leeds. £200m for Saints. Farcical.

@scottlarsen_pi A proportionate punishment in relation to the offence and precedent. No case like this has resulted in this big of a penalty. Just because another rule was added doesn’t warrant jumping from £200k fine to something that would cost the club 200 million.

@DonnyGav7 @henrywinter The important word there is “can”. What if the player in question was injured in the first minute and substituted? The same penalty would apply as if he scored a hat trick. Breaking the rules is breaking the rules.

@DonnyGav7 @henrywinter It’s difficult to prove any advantage in fielding an unregistered player but the offending team will suffer serious consequences if they do

@henrywinter Never once heard you call out Chelsea or Man City to come out & apologise for their cheating, for Leicester, Forest & others wanting their owners to come out & apologise to other clubs?? Why now? A bloke with an I-phone, nobodies been killed, no evidence of any advantage?

@prodnose @covwhite West Ham will be a “scalp” and it’s amazing the superhuman effort that some clubs will put in to beat ‘em. It was remarkable how many teams that beat #LUFC them went on a losing run!

I sense a lot of West Ham fans are thinking, "OK we go down and spend a year in the Championship, but when we go back up again..." Like the Championship is a formality. You'll find out Hammers.

The FA Cup Final was once an historic cultural event. People still remember Sunderland in 73 or Cov in 87. Today’s game has the feel of a charity match. Two interchangeable lineups of foreign millionaires bankrolled by foreign billionaires. Empty seats. No identity. Yookay slop.

Huge support for Starmer has become palpable. UK has rediscovered what it really wants most is stability. The 'bastards' have seen this and it has panicked them. Thats why they've panicked into 'now or never'.

@salter_sam @EFL_Comms @SouthamptonFC Similar has happened before. And who’s is to say no advantage was gained. And it’s irrelevant to the punishment whether an advantage was gained or not - if a team field an ineligible player, he might not give them an advantage, but they’re still getting kicked out.

@The_BoleynBoys I’ve always had a grudging respect for West Ham, as their fan base always appears to be similar to ours. I’d be delighted if they stop up at Spurs expense. The only pleasure I’d drive from West Ham going down is knowing how much it will piss of @WestHam_Central

@matthayesthfc Apparently Brian Brobbey should've been sent off. Now prove that your lacklustre (shit) team would have taken advantage of that. Honestly Sunderland would still have won that game with 10 men.
