Another post-Helene milestone being reached in WNC as the Norfolk Southern railway is operational again. @wxchristopher and I caught it going through downtown Marion. The train is likely near Old Fort at this time (10:42 am) and will stop for a ceremony before beginning a trek up the loops into Buncombe County! 🚂

@SoApps1979 @wxchristopher From where I live, lightning was definitely plentiful in the area. I couldn’t see any direct strikes, but saw lots of flashes for sure.

@NBACobwebs @JamesWorthy42 I saw Worthy do this same type of dunk in high school when he played for Gastonia Ashbrook, then I saw one of our players for Morganton Freedom do a similar dunk over Worthy! The Freedom High gym erupted!

March 27, 1982: This dunk by North Carolina's James Worthy against Houston during the NCAA National Semifinal game in New Orleans. Worthy finished with 14 PTS, Sam Perkins had 25 PTS/10 REB and Michael Jordan scored 18 PTS in the Tar Heels' 68-63 win over the Cougars.

It’s crazy how the indirect effects of #Helene are rearing its ugly head six months later. This winter and early spring has been one of the worst #wildfire seasons ever. Maybe not in terms of the overall number of fires…but each fire seems to be extremely intense due to the abnormally high ground fuels. Forestry that fell over during to Helene combined with low humidity, winds has made each of these fires extremely volatile. We need a wet weather pattern across #WNCwx .

@EvanMoestaHSOT @JMBpreps The gym at the OLD RS Central HS was a classic. Small, cramped, and very loud especially when they had those great teams in the late 70s through mid 80s.
