@AHalfNickel I also would've liked if they stuck closer to the Japanese title and kept it as one phrase rather than disjointed title/subtitle but that's a lesser issue

@AHalfNickel A lot of replies but no one's actually getting to the correct problem with the title. Both the title and subtitle start with "the" which is clunky. The few Zelda games that do this also clearly sound more awkward than the ones that don't

Can not believe people are saying The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a weird title. It’s the most appropriate least confusing title that Team Asano has ever gave a game. Hell, it follows The Legend of Zelda’s naming convention but no one calls those titles weird

@PurpleColonelSP You don't need to play FE, and I agree many Nintendo fans have a bias toward the genre, but you're clearly acting as though any game where your main interaction with the mechanics isn't the physics engine is inherently not using the strengths of a video game, which is ridiculous

@PurpleColonelSP You said that not being real time "puts a barrier between the player and the mechanics". That is a very narrow view of what game mechanics are. Fire Emblem is entirely you thinking about and trying to make use of the game mechanics to the maximum extent

@PurpleColonelSP Thinking that turn based strategy games make gameplay "take a backseat" and put a barrier between the player and the mechanics is honestly some pseudo-intellectual nonsense that betrays a lack of understanding about. Well aboyt video games, honestly

So when Smash Bros becomes viewed as this pillar representing the best elements of video games and Nintendo especially, a game where the gameplay and the style are both taking a back seat (at least at a glance) getting this much attention feels like far too much.

You think in a couple years when this fails Bandai and Toei will just pretend Gavan Infinity was a Sentai the whole time?

@glennrolon i think the hint to unraveling it al has been hidden in plain sight too. reiji powers through and can overpower tesshin’s nega-emorgy because his anger is born out of a residual juniorly sense of love for gatou. and… ‘love is the strongest’… but is it stronger than death?…

...i really want to know more about this, i'm on tenterhooks for the next death gavan episode. could this be a reference to 'miskatonic university' a-la lovecraft? aza zolth definitely sounds like azathoth, so i'm pretty certain this is the direction it's going to be going!

@sarasanjou Actually now that I think about it it makes even more sense that the first thing Tesshin tries to do to "make Reiji see things his way" is to try and kill the rest of the crew on the ship, stripping Reiji of the support system he has but Tesshin doesn't

@sarasanjou Now he sees Reiji who's going through a similar depression but trying to work through it and he doesn't like that so he's trying to drag Reiji into the same depressive spiral as himself (the powers here serving as a literalization of that)

@glennrolon the living representation of chaos being the supreme marker of order in the universe is a delicious contrast-theme… love all of that! destruction/death’s inevitability, hence he renamed himself ‘death’ gavan… because in the end, isn’t ‘death’ the ultimate ‘destiny’ for all?

@sarasanjou I think that's an interesting idea especially when you add in that, in a show where emotions are the whole theme, the power Aza Zolth gives Reiji (and presumably Tesshin) is named after depression (Hence why I tried to replicate the very on-the-nose naming in the subs lmao)

in lovecraft, azathoth dwells at the centre of the universe, that represents the only truth of the world being the inevitability of destruction... now, that sounds incredibly familiar... i'm so curious to see how they'll adapt this. lovecraftian sci-fi, i am SO here for it.

@phantozer0 There is a misconception that needs to be cleared up! People who self identify as "Mario Fans" do not play Pokémon! Even that is too much for them!

@JAT_1950 @marcievania I agree Metroid still has story to tell and I'm not against more Castlevania games but I've always thought a 1999 game is a bad idea. It is thematically more impactful that Dracula's violent defeat is not as important as his redemption

@marcievania Kinda disagree. I think the Battle of 1999, and possibly Castlevania’s version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula and a game between POR and Battle of 1999, before calling it quits. Metroid I think still has worthwhile stories to tell, namely Samus dealing with Chozo and rouge GF fractions
