possibly my biggest autism blunder ever was hurting my friend's feelings in college in an affectionate moment by saying "you're not my *best* friend, since that can only apply to one person by definition and clearly that would have to be _____, but you're my really good friend and i love you"
worse still, I didn't learn my lesson and reenacted this same dialogue a few years later with a different friend, also hurting their feelings

One of my favorite pastimes is to show up at a Japanese restaurant (whether in Japan or "authentic" in new york) and order king cans of Kirin until the waitress expresses concern for my well-being. It's usually about round 3.

@ChristianityOn for that company in particular, you pay for a diagnosis from a naturopath who presents herself as a real doctor until you read the fine print lol. even her free screening tests have modifications to lean towards an autism result. more deetz on reddit :P

@ChristianityOn i think you should also account for online diagnosis mills, e.g. Embrace Autism, which exist to extract money from BPD people that self-dx'd during the pandemic.

I've been doing long form interviews of autistic people for the last 10 years. After the interview, I put them into a cluster of their peers based on their answers. In the last 4 years I've had to create 4 new clusters to sort new people who don't fit the normal autism patterns.

I showed up to my sister's birthday BBQ last year and all of her friends had self-diagnosed their autism and apparently asked her "hey, what is wrong with your brother?" and she had to explain "Oh, he has like real autism"
