One of the great joys of returning to first three albums for PP's recent season was just getting to hear great songs shine on their own merits. They were simply bangers. Even on Speak Now were the lore begins to play a role, the songs work without it. Is that still true?

One thing i'm trying to grapple with is, if these songs were not released by Taylor Swift, how would we hear them? I know it's impossible but if we could pick out all meta-narrative and lore and also the engrained notion that she's Very Important, do these songs stand up?
