For I&O leaders, here are key resolutions to consider for 2025. Stay on Top of Technology Trends Regularly follow industry blogs, attend conferences, and track emerging developments like AI, edge computing, automation, and platform engineering. Staying informed guides better investments and strategies. Foster Communication and Trust with Business Areas Work closely with business units, encouraging open communication, transparency, and measurable ROI. Align I&O strategies with organizational needs and goals. Be More Proactive, Less Reactive Leverage AI-driven analytics to anticipate demands. “Lean Forward” to see how tomorrow’s infrastructure can deliver new services and future value, rather than constantly firefighting. Prioritize I&O Talents Have the right people in the right roles. Promote continuous learning, focusing on DevOps, AI/ML, FinOps, and other key skills to keep your team prepared for ongoing change. Strive to Reduce I&O Risks Adopt zero-trust security principles, uphold reliability goals, and maintain current disaster recovery and business continuity plans. Communicate and address any gaps early. Manage Costs and Get Lean Prepare for economic headwinds with cost-optimization measures. Apply FinOps for cloud cost governance, and eliminate redundant infrastructure to keep spending in check. Manage IT Assets and Services as “Products” Treat services as dynamic products managed iteratively and tied directly to business outcomes. Shift from project-based to product-oriented thinking for greater agility. Accelerate Automation and Platform Engineering Build self-service, hybrid digital infrastructure. Continuously improve I&O platforms with agile techniques and automation for faster, more efficient delivery. Focus on Sustainability Seek to minimize environmental impact with energy-efficient technologies and eco-friendly practices, such as greener cooling methods and careful resource allocation. Foster a Culture of Innovation Encourage the I&O team to think creatively and explore emerging solutions—from cloud platforms to generative AI. Reward experimentation and rapid iteration to drive greater business value. In my opinion, these remain among the most important resolutions for I&O leaders in 2025. Whether they’ll be kept or not is another story.
