Met with @WorldBank President Ajay Banga, MD Anna Bjerde, and the Executive Board — key partners in addressing protracted displacement through strategic financing, inclusion and job creation. This collaboration is crucial to boost refugee self‑reliance and reduce aid dependency.

Leaving Chad, I am deeply grateful to UNHCR teams doing lifesaving work every day. I also carry profound appreciation for the communities hosting Sudanese refugees. Their solidarity is extraordinary. But not infinite. The world must step up its support for the people here.

Meeting President @WilliamsRuto today, I took the opportunity to thank him for Kenya's generosity in hosting and including refugees. I have seen first-hand how the landmark Shirika plan is improving lives. We deeply value our partnership with the government and people of Kenya.

Today UNHCR launched a report confirming what I have seen in many places with my own eyes. Funding cuts and dramatic levels of displacement have a devastating impact on millions of refugees around the world — with entire regions at risk of instability. unhcr.org/news/briefing-…

Refugees and displaced people continue to be well over 120 million worldwide. With conflicts raging, peacemaking on life support and wars fought in total disregard for the lives of civilians, more and more people flee in fear. Our annual report👇🏻 unhcr.org/global-trends

Media are largely silent on this topic. Nobody mentions it in political debates. Millions of lives worldwide are being affected by brutal cuts in international aid. Soon we will see more people die unnecessarily, children go hungry, and many move on, desperately seeking help.

An appeal to European leaders from a lifetime humanitarian: as you discuss boosting defense spending please don’t overlook humanitarian aid, which faces devastating cuts. Aid, too, is about keeping your countries safe. Aid promotes stability. And a stable world is a safer world.

The stories I’ve heard from Sudanese refugees in Chad are beyond harrowing. No one, anywhere, should ever endure what they have endured. The world needs to hear their voices. We must #KeepEyesOnSudan.

Today I met some of the 500 Sudanese refugees who arrive daily in the Chadian town of Adre. 61,000 have arrived in Chad since the beginning of the month. 223,000 since the beginning of the year. 700,000 since the start of the conflict. A tragedy which a ceasefire could stop.

The global economy has shown resilience. But at 3.2 percent projected for 2024 and 2025, global growth remains below historical average. Reforms that foster productivity can help boost growth over the medium term. More in our latest World Economic Outlook. imf.org/en/Publication…
