📚 Punk is often associated with Western music and fashion, but its political roots (resistance, anti-authoritarianism, DIY culture, and community organising) run deep across the Global South.
Global Souths Hub's Mira Mookerjee has compiled, "Punk in the Global South: A Reading and Resource List", a comprehensive collection that explores how punk has shaped activism from Brazil’s transportation protests, to Morocco’s underground scenes, to Indonesia’s feminist and grassroots movements.
These resources highlight how punk ideology has intersected with anti-colonialism, struggles for political freedom, and community-led resistance.
