48 illegal foreign nationals were intercepted at the Polokwane Traffic Control Centre after two minibuses travelling from Zimbabwe to Gauteng were stopped on the N1 bypass. Authorities found that only two of the 50 passengers had valid passports, while the remaining 48 were allegedly in the country illegally. They will be escorted to the Beitbridge Border for deportation. Both minibuses were impounded for allegedly breaching operating licence conditions. The Department of Transport and Community Safety says it will continue working with law enforcement agencies to protect commuters, enforce immigration laws and uphold road safety regulations.

#sapsKZN [NATJOINTS TO CONDUCT TARGETED VERIFICATION OF FOREIGN NATIONALS AT THE DIAKONIA CENTRE] The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (#NATJOINTS) will from today, Thursday, 21 May 2026, conduct a targeted verification process of all the foreign nationals that are currently gathered at the Diakonia Refugee Centre in eThekwini. This operation will be led by an integrated team involving the Departments of Home Affairs (DHA), Social Development, Transport and Law Enforcement in the province. This follows an engagement between the Southern African Refugee Forum, which represents the foreign nationals that are currently gathered at the centre and senior officials of the NATJOINTS represented by the Department of Home Affairs and Law Enforcement authorities in the province of KwaZulu Natal. The NATJOINTS has made it clear that this process is not meant to legitimize the illegal stay of undocumented foreign nationals in the country but to ensure that those who are here legally are duly protected and the undocumented ones are subjected to the immigration laws processes accordingly. The Provincial Spokesperson for the South African Police Service, Colonel Robert Netshiunda said "This process will be conducted with the integrated team of NATJOINTS to ensure that we attend to all the issues associated with this illegal occupation of the centre". He added that those who are found to be in the country illegally will be processed back to their country of origin immediately. ML saps.gov.za/newsroom/ms.php

Protester's anger is misguided, says Prof. Loren Landau, co-director of the Wits-Oxford Mobility Governance Lab. Most of the people under attack or chased from their homes ordinary people who may have started businesses and are hiring South Africans, he adds. enca.com/opinion-top-st…

South Africa is one of the few African countries where foreign nationals openly march, protest and participate in political demonstrations.😩 In the following African countries, that can get you arrested, detained or deported. #abahambe

The vast majority of South Africans are not xenophobic. If they were, parties like the PA, ActionSA, and Operation Dudula would already be in power. Millions of South Africans understand our history and are angry at the betrayal of the struggle to free black people and the working class from colonial and apartheid capitalism. They recognise that the deep structural crisis we face cannot be blamed on migrants, but on the failure to transform an economic system that still benefits a tiny elite while the majority are marginalised. This betrayal includes the failure to manage borders, enforce all migration and labour laws, transform education, and address land and property hunger, among many issues. Those South Africans take us very seriously and will not join your madness of singing that you will beat up Shangaans and beating up anyone who can't speak local language when you impose yourselves as the police and home affairs officials

South Africans are not angry for no reason. People are watching foreign nationals attempt to establish parallel authority structures inside the country, and it feels deeply disrespectful to many citizens. These tensions are growing because people feel unheard.

A Nigerian lady shared her frustration after arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on her way to Tawau, only to be told she couldn’t board her flight because Nigerians need a separate state approval before entering Sabah. Imagine landing in Lagos and then being told you need another visa before you can travel to Abuja. She said when she asked the airport attendant whether the policy also applied to other nationalities, they told her it was mainly for Nigerians and Bangladeshis.
