@jessicadefino_ Because perpetrators are human beings, too. And this one is a child. I can’t apologize for compassion, and I never said that the child shouldn’t face repercussions. There’s a need to hold space for both of these—anger and hurt and the need to punish plus compassion for a child.

@jessicadefino_ I am WITH Fiona (and you re Fiona) 100 percent. What I am trying—and obviously failing!— to say is that I found myself surprised to have felt empathetic for Diego AT ALL after such he committed such a terrible offense. That somehow the 20 years post-high school have changed me.

I have sympathy for parents who are unable to obtain baby formula due to the evil and incompetence of politicians. I would also say that hopefully this is a wakeup call to become more self-sufficient—God literally designed mothers to feed their babies.
