@StinkyBlueRat Ragatha was there for 9 years and not ONCE did she mention the 9/11 terrorist attacks despite knowing about them. Terrible show. #tadc

@cosmicjester In that case though, why hasn’t Apple Books been able to fill the void?

I think a big part of the reason ebooks never took over in the way other digital media took over is that Amazon’s ui and support for the kindle has been pretty woeful. If the kindle was an apple creation it would have been a much more successful device.

This is A NIGHTMARE. Amazon is bricking old Kindles, including my beloved Kindle 5 (with the side buttons). I hate the touch screen versions, I've tried them and I'm always accidentally flipping pages.

@jdcmedlock thinking very much of Matt bruenig and peoples policy project family fun pack (it just takes Finlands system) jacobin.com/2021/12/univer… and peoplespolicyproject.org/projects/famil…

It is endlessly funny to me that, because WV already has fully universal pre-K, Manchin is a supporter of pre-K with no means testing. But he feels strongly that childcare for kids a year younger should be strictly means-tested. It's all status quo bias.

Crazy that out of all the security council members, the UK is the only one that isn’t running a neocolonial empire or trying to ruthlessly annex the water/land territory of its neighbours

@expedtadam For what it’s worth, when Coaltion threatened to block supply in 1974, Whitlam was fine calling an election, with his odds looking better insidestory.org.au/1975-the-senat…

@RetroRaiderD42 @reverido1 @ms_frazzled I’ve only seen a bunch of clips and delved wikis, so I didn’t know Michael Scott was actually highly technically competent. He always fitted in the archetype of happy but bumbling
English

@reverido1 @ms_frazzled Definite truth here, though of course the Peter Principle refers to those times when folks are promoted for their technical skills whilst lacking people/leadership skills (eg David Brent/ Michael Scott in The Office.)

@Noahpinion I find it odious you decide to repose a Jordan lasker post, even if it’s a mundane tariffs one, when his whole hog is just trying to justify racism. x.com/cremieuxrecuei…
same guy who made the Zohran college application… fracas? “He’s from Uganda but he said he’s black” jazz?
Crémieux@cremieuxrecueil
Less than half of Americans know what a tariff is.

@desalmado_19 @trisdatruce wait, what did they do to Irys? I thought Omega just… didn’t end up existing?
English

@trisdatruce If they gave me a gun with two bullets and put a robber and omega in front of me, I'd shoot omega twice and use the gun to beat up her former manager. It's a good thing all of those people are never coming back, those who made her smile disappear for a long time deserve the worst

@yacineMTB @Noahpinion You get more money off if you make more money
Which typically is done by working longer
Which means less time with kids…

Is this from the 90s? Because everyone would kill for their own cubicle now instead of an open floor plan that the boss says will foster camaraderie or whatever.

@LinkofSunshine In theory yes, in practice the idea of paying land tax forever feels a bit more icky than paying eg water bills forever (and even council rates are idk), at least that’s what I guess
English

@tfontes98 @CoKeynesian @nobodyknows2322 I think that’s just the tradeoffs of these things. If you let a monopoly charge whatever it what’s I don’t think it would be better.
I’m not too familiar with the nuclear sector, but it’s more my take on regulated returns and eg power transmission lines
English

@CoKeynesian @nobodyknows2322 Wasn't cost-plus regulation a failure that led to the demise of the US nuclear sector for instance? Utilities were incentivized to overinvest and thus overestimated demand

@monsuco @PoorlyAgedStuff Afaik most of the savings from adding the work requirements comes from working people kicked off Medicaid because of the bureaucratic burden of the added documents etc they needed to source etc.
English

@PoorlyAgedStuff It doesn't cut Social Security or Medicare (though I personally am 100% in favor of doing so), it cuts MEDICAID. Specifically, it adds work requirements to eligibility. It doesn't do enough to throw illegals off Medicaid (yes they do get Medicaid in some states).
