Bengal Elections: 2021 vs 2026
After winning the 2021 polls, when Mamata Banerjee and her TMC launched widespread attacks on Hindus, leading nationalist voices criticised Narendra Modi and Amit Shah for not dismissing Begum and immediately imposing President's Rule in Bengal.
Some of us said that would be counter productive because of two reasons. 1. The system led by the Supreme Court would reinstate her in a week or less. The BJP's image would then be in the gutter. 2. Even if the Bengali Hindu voter was fed up of Mamata Begum, Hindus being Hindus are easily prone to the Sympathy Syndrome. Dismissing the TMC Govt would lead to a huge sympathy wave for Begum, with even nationalists accusing Modi and Amit Shah of dismissing a woman CM in a sneaky manner
But the environment was charged in the wake of the slaughter of BJP cadres. Many leading Hindu voices called us Andh Bhakts, Modi slaves and what not. They shot back: "Why is the BJP not protecting its workers who risked their lives by campaigning for it? BJP is a party of cowards that betrays its own cadres. Unlike you, our support is not blind. We will hold the BJP accountable for ditching Hindus." Etc. Etc.
After the 2021 elections, Modi and Amit Shah realised there was no way to beat Mamata because she had the support of millions of illegal Bangladeshis. The centre had to first delink these illegal voters from the electoral system via SIR. That was done with painstaking effort with the help of the Supreme Court which came on board because Bengal's survival was at stake. If there was any Chanakya Neeti involved, we will never know.
For 5 years, Modi and Amit Shah gave Begum a long rope. Believing she was untouchable, she became more arrogant. Like Rasputin, her crimes became more brazen. Her protege, the Muslim mayor of Kolkata, went to the extent of publicly saying that his target was the 100% Islamisation of Bengal.
It was the SIR exercise, during which neutral officers, including a woman, were attacked by a violent mob led by a Muslim TMC leader, that finally opened the eyes of the sleeping, Sympathy Syndrome prone Hindus. SIR showed them that Bengal under Begum was no longer a normal state but a proto Islamic country, where Bangladeshis ran amok.
It was a long chain of decisions and actions that rescued Bengal from the mouth of jehad. Had Modi and Amit Shah listened to Twitter in 2021, today Bengal would be seeing a repeat of the post poll violence - only on a larger scale.
It's unfortunate that so many Hindutva supporters are ever ready to roast the BJP for its apparent omissions and commissions. In contrast, not a single Christian or Muslim ditches the Thugbandhan no matter how corrupt these parties are.
So here's my advice to Hindus: be only as tolerant as Christians and Muslims. Be only as peaceful as them. Do not link your vote to development or social issues. Your vote should be on the basis of your religion. Your vote should only go to the BJP. Because the only thing standing between India and chaos is the BJP.
