🚨BREAKING: A group of angry Man United fans reportedly invaded and kidnapped Tyrell Malacia.
A statement released by the group’s leader reads:
“We would like to apologize to Man United and anyone offended by our actions. We mean no harm to Malacia, but we simply don’t want him to play the game against Aston Villa.
We promise to return him safely to Carrington after the match.”

The term comes from old football tradition. In the late 1800s, players who represented their country, especially in the United Kingdom were given an actual cap (a hat) to mark each match they played. 🎩⚽
For example, players in the early matches between England national football team and Scotland national football team were literally awarded a physical cap for every international game.
Over time, the physical hats stopped being given regularly, but the word “cap” remained to mean any official appearance for a national team…. Club matches are not called caps because the tradition only existed in international football.

I’ve always wanted to ask, why do we say “caps” when talking about country appearances??
