Just a reminder that there’s no evidence to suggest that trans women having equal rights has negatively impacted the rights or safety of cís women. The biggest threat to cís women has always been, and continues to be, cís men.

I genuinely think this was the first time many people in that room were confronted with the hard reality of the trans debate, rather than the slogans that usually surround it. @BuckAngel was exceptional: calm, articulate, humane. Ultimate respect. And then there was Helen Webberley. I remember once thinking the criticism directed at her by GC women was excessive, especially the claim she was ‘pure evil’. After hearing her speak, I no longer think that. She is totally insincere. I can deal with hard ideologues- they believe they are telling the truth; they are genuine, @HelenWebberley is different. One audience member, a trans-identified male and former patient of hers, stood to speak during points of information. His account of how he had been treated was deeply disturbing. I've been questioning the Ministry of Housing on the proportion of social housing tenants who have lived in the UK for under a year... The response? "My Department does not hold data on what proportion of social housing tenants have lived in the UK for any period of time." Woeful. How can the Government not hold this data? I want to know exactly how many foreigners who have just arrived in Britain are currently in social housing. Is that so outrageous? To even ask for the figures? Restore Britain's policy position is clear. British social housing for British families.

This ruling is disappointing, but one thing is clear: the EHRC’s draft code of practice got the law wrong and must be changed. Women's and men's toilets can be provided on a trans-inclusive basis for customers and service users. But devastatingly, this ruling also found that trans people may be expected to use a third toilet when at work. This risks outing them, violating their privacy, and is unworkable for many employers. The government must update outdated workplace regulations and provide consistency and dignity to trans people.
