@GoyEmpanada In the US, over 1% of GDP is spent on advertising. A good chunk of that is basically persuasive propaganda art, videos and slogans and pictures. If that stuff wasn't effective at changing opinions and making people act(read:buy), they wouldn't spend billions on it

Art is basically completely worthless politically. Artists like to conceive of themselves as way bigger and more impactful than they actually are, but the the combined practical effect of hundreds of years of political art has been nothing.

@vansianism Hm, but this was not only in english so almost no east germans could have read it(no english in school+authorities would be suspicious), but also started running only september 1987 and was published every few months,so there would've been maybe 10 issues before unification...

@frumiousbobsyer @LizzyStarrrdust The idea of things being "voluntary" gets dodgy around really hard choices. Everyone agrees that under threat of death you are coerced, and many would extend this to bodily harm. Why not homelessness? It's really bad for you.

@LizzyStarrrdust I kinda object to this, would never do this myself, but I cannot reasonably object to two consenting adults behaving in such a manner, though there are other forms of employment he should have suggested instead (janitorial, landscaping, maintenance, etc).

Cooking without meat doesn't require any more effort than cooking with meat. I genuinely don't understand what people think vegans eat that is somehow both prohibitively expensive and demands hours of labor-intensive preparation

I’m not going to argue with any of you about this but a vegan diet requires an amount of effort that is simply beyond what most people are willing or able to do and many people end up getting sick from deficiencies for just grabbing easy options bc they don’t what to spend ages on food prep every day. It’s not a good solution to the issue of factory farming. Lab grown meat is a better one.
