@Lib_Development @hieywieyneue Not all of it if you're on insurance, right? The whole point is that the cost is distributed among everyone who pays in; getting injured is "free-riding" (kind of)

@hieywieyneue I’d much rather have an assumption of risk rule (no seatbelt = no compensating payout if injured when not at fault) but you’re definitely wrong about externalities. The risk is definitely internal!

@GoyEmpanada In the US, over 1% of GDP is spent on advertising. A good chunk of that is basically persuasive propaganda art, videos and slogans and pictures. If that stuff wasn't effective at changing opinions and making people act(read:buy), they wouldn't spend billions on it

Art is basically completely worthless politically. Artists like to conceive of themselves as way bigger and more impactful than they actually are, but the the combined practical effect of hundreds of years of political art has been nothing.

@stoneymacaroni @queerBengali The connection here is "who is considered deserving of dignity and rights changes over time, in both cases they're justifying cruelty by saying 'they are not human' "(true in one case of course), not "slaves are like cows"!

@jcbtorti @queerBengali Okay you're just playing dumb at this point, "slave owners didn't think their slaves were human" in response to "cows are not human" clearly shows what they were trying to imply a connection, or they would have never said it due to how unrelated it is. Youre feigning ignorance.

@stoneymacaroni @queerBengali But no one was equating black people to cows or saying that cows would be considered people one day. No one said either of those things. Why are you debating it?

@stoneymacaroni @queerBengali Remind me? You said stuff about how animals shouldn't have the same rights as people etc, but that does not make this comparison racist

@TrulyyRaee @acco_stay @queerBengali Wdym cows were 'put there' to be eaten? By the farmers? Sure, kind of, but the farmers could be 100% wrong that cows should be eaten. By nature? No, nature didn't put anything anywhere for any purpose.

@jcbtorti @acco_stay @queerBengali no where did i mention religion. the truth is, cows were put here to be mf ate. the only problem with the meat industry is the way animals are breed and killed. but you cannot try to force ppl to be vegan by telling them they are equivalent to slave masters

@jcbtorti @queerBengali Is that really your argument? "You can compare anything with anything", yes you can. But sometimes those comparisons are stupid, and in this case racist as well.

@stoneymacaroni @queerBengali Well cows are like black people when they were enslave, in some ways. In other, important ways they aren't the same. When you compare 2 things, you are not saying that they are identical! Only that they have things in common. You can compare anything to anything

@jcbtorti @queerBengali Right. Because cows dont deserve the same rights as humans. You can make the argument that cows should be treated better without going "cows are like black people when they were enslaved"

@stoneymacaroni @queerBengali Sure , animals don't need free speech and trying to guarantee it would be ridiculous. But we're talking about the right to, y'know, life+ not being tortured here. I'm comfortable saying cows have a right to non-torture And explain how the comparison "equates" the two, exactly?

@jcbtorti @queerBengali Animals shouldnt be afforded the same rights as humans. Does a cow get the right to freedom of speech? In like every way Its a bad comparison let alone that it equates black slaves to cows.

@stoneymacaroni @queerBengali I mean, depends on the comparison, right? And here the comparison is maybe "like animals today, black slaves were not afforded rights or assigned moral value". That's not racist, right?

@vansianism Hm, but this was not only in english so almost no east germans could have read it(no english in school+authorities would be suspicious), but also started running only september 1987 and was published every few months,so there would've been maybe 10 issues before unification...

@acco_stay @queerBengali but they knew they were human, they just didn’t want to consider them as human. Nobody is mistaking cows for humans, we don’t have to treat cows equally. it’s a food chain. we are at the top. cows were placed here for us to eat. which is why they have what we need

@discordspies @LizzyStarrrdust Of course she has an out! It may be homelessness, which is bad enough that i understand this not being consensual, but still. She can say no! Making an offer can only give her options, which she freely picks from, right? It exploits a bad situation, but doesn't make it worse.

Do you have an objection to this scenario? A 30 year old woman finds herself broke. Her landlord proposes she have sex with him in exchange for rent. She wouldn't have had sex with him otherwise but he's ok, she's got no other options & isn't repulsed by him . She agrees.

@frumiousbobsyer @LizzyStarrrdust The idea of things being "voluntary" gets dodgy around really hard choices. Everyone agrees that under threat of death you are coerced, and many would extend this to bodily harm. Why not homelessness? It's really bad for you. I guess maybe she could get the money together?

@LizzyStarrrdust I kinda object to this, would never do this myself, but I cannot reasonably object to two consenting adults behaving in such a manner, though there are other forms of employment he should have suggested instead (janitorial, landscaping, maintenance, etc).

@avispartan1 @Special_Cactus @alcibiades5410 @EOpsych Ok but the question isnt if vegan food is tastier than meat(it isn't.). That's not your argument. You're saying it's "peasant food"+you couldn't get people to eat it, ie that it's much much worse than meat. Idk about that!Vegan stuff gets pretty good+most meat dishes are mediocre
