This will flush out the bus concern trolls with measures to prioritise bus journeys over private car use. 😊 TfL unveils ambitious five-year plan to cut congestion and transform London's road network for the future - Transport for London. tfl.gov.uk/info-for/media…

Save Our Safer Streets - Tower Hamlets
After 2+ years of legal battles, the Court of Appeal has ruled in our favour. Tower Hamlets cannot lawfully remove our safer streets. A huge precedent for London. Evening Standard covers the news here: standard.co.uk/news/london/lo…

@EdSaper @OpenChiswickW4 And increasing ridership doesn't mean people switching away from cars. It is just that people already likely to use public transport will use it more and convert some active travel into public transport. If I'm tracking it's: lose-lose-lose-lose

@OpenChiswickW4 UK Bus revenue is ~£3.4bn pa. Halving fares costs ~£1.2bn, assuming 27.5% higher ridership. Invest another £300m to double London’s bus lanes. Introduce road pricing & reduce the £10-20bn annual car subsidy to pay for it. Why wait for the long term to invest in mass transit?

We can only be thankful that old boomers like John no longer hold any positions of influence in British society. And that younger women like Heidi Alexander, Claire Holland, Rezina Chowdury, Katherine Dunne and Una O’Halloran are leading the way in making London streets safer

Is this the barmiest LTN yet? The detour required after the closure of a single road in Islington's new Mildmay LTN is set to result in: - More than a million extra miles being driven each year - 400,000 kg of extra CO2 being released Yet the council labelled it as "green" 🧵

@ediz1975 Sharing the data does matter. The data (including your observations) are the facts. All you’re sharing is your conclusions about LA data. It’s difficult to swallow this as facts.

LTN increased congestion here by over 101% excluding slow moving vehicles. This residential road has a number of schools surrounding it. LTN advocates called the increased harming of children here a success in the name of LTNs …. Harming children here for a hobby is deemed as acceptable by groups like the LCC…

@andrewellson By now I really shouldn’t be surprised at car lobbyists using eco arguments (reducing pollution & CO2) to justify their efforts to remove any impediment to using their cars (filters, pedestrianisation, bike lanes, bus lanes & gates) which emit all the pollution in the 1st place.

Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us. So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.
James Surowiecki@JamesSurowiecki

It's also important to understand that the tariff rates that foreign countries are supposedly charging us are just made-up numbers. South Korea, with which we have a trade agreement, is not charging a 50% tariff on U.S. exports. Nor is the EU charging a 39% tariff.

"Making driving more appealing leads to more driving". Logical and uncontroversial. Yet people opposing traffic-calming measures like LTNs dance around that fact. Why? Because they know this to be true and often just try to find excuses for their habits or that of others.

SUVs are clogging our cities, wasting fuel, and putting lives at risk. We need higher taxes and charges to be levied on these oversized cars if we want to create a safer, cleaner future. It's time to take action. gbnews.com/lifestyle/cars…
