@KemiBadenoch @RicHolden The same Conservative party that gave us the active travel policy Gear Change has now lost the plot.
The ideas and words they use here feel out of touch.

@HFConsCllrs @msinclairHFC How are you going to make the road safer for everyone?

This will flush out the bus concern trolls with measures to prioritise bus journeys over private car use. 😊

After 2+ years of legal battles, the Court of Appeal has ruled in our favour.
Tower Hamlets cannot lawfully remove our safer streets. A huge precedent for London.

@EdSaper @OpenChiswickW4 And increasing ridership doesn't mean people switching away from cars.
It is just that people already likely to use public transport will use it more and convert some active travel into public transport.
If I'm tracking it's: lose-lose-lose-lose
English

@OpenChiswickW4 UK Bus revenue is ~£3.4bn pa. Halving fares costs ~£1.2bn, assuming 27.5% higher ridership. Invest another £300m to double London’s bus lanes. Introduce road pricing & reduce the £10-20bn annual car subsidy to pay for it. Why wait for the long term to invest in mass transit?
English

I just found a great research paper on biases in transport. It goes into some of the known biased we have and applies them to transport.

@JohnJohnStewart @neilchristiex @LornaBlane @andrewellson @EvanDriscoll10 We all select evidence to evidence our points. If we consider that we all believe what we believe, then shouldn't the discussion be about the presented evidence and not the person?
English

@jchermier @neilchristiex @LornaBlane @andrewellson @EvanDriscoll10 I've countered Neil's selective evidence time and again. I'm weary of doing so. His approach is neither transparent nor honest. I'm done with it.
English

@JohnJohnStewart @neilchristiex @LornaBlane @andrewellson @EvanDriscoll10 Hi John. The way to counter an evidenced argument is not to attack the person. It is to provide a better argument.
Aren't we all in the business of knowing true things?

@neilchristiex @LornaBlane @andrewellson @EvanDriscoll10 Nobody's listening Neil. Your honesty has long been shot to pieces.

@goSHIFTscheme @ediz1975 Hi, did you get a resolution on this?
All vehicles are counted, even in slow traffic, but it is the classification of vehicles that gets less accurate.

LTN increased congestion here by over 101% excluding slow moving vehicles. This residential road has a number of schools surrounding it. LTN advocates called the increased harming of children here a success in the name of LTNs …. Harming children here for a hobby is deemed as acceptable by groups like the LCC…
English

@EdSaper @andrewellson Well put.
Have a quick look, similar idea:

English

@andrewellson By now I really shouldn’t be surprised at car lobbyists using eco arguments (reducing pollution & CO2) to justify their efforts to remove any impediment to using their cars (filters, pedestrianisation, bike lanes, bus lanes & gates) which emit all the pollution in the 1st place.

@unentschieden85 @JamesSurowiecki Hi. The OP is right though. The formula on your link is equivalent to the one presented here.

Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us.
So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.
James Surowiecki@JamesSurowiecki
It's also important to understand that the tariff rates that foreign countries are supposedly charging us are just made-up numbers. South Korea, with which we have a trade agreement, is not charging a 50% tariff on U.S. exports. Nor is the EU charging a 39% tariff.
English

@Antni_b @_wearepossible Probably. They should work on all cars designs and be serious about the safety of all road users.
English

@jchermier @_wearepossible They should probably concentrate more on the design of vans if that is the case. The bonnet on my van is far higher than both

SUVs are clogging our cities, wasting fuel, and putting lives at risk.
We need higher taxes and charges to be levied on these oversized cars if we want to create a safer, cleaner future.
It's time to take action.
