@TheRealZophar The industry has changed so much. Nintendo Directs started in 2011, a huge shift in how console gamers would discover new games. In 2002, Best Buy was a way to discover games and try new demos. Even gamers who buy physical like me don't need Best Buy to play that role any more.

My hot take... we're headed for another video game crash like the one in the early 1980s if this direction continues. Here's what Best Buy's gaming section looked like in 2002. Compare it with what you see when you go into one now - or GameStop, or Target. The excitement's gone.

@kevinsellors @TheRealZophar The TV thing means nothing. I bought a new TV for Black Friday, just not on Black Friday. Best Buy simply had its BF pricing available all month and let everybody know it. No need to line up hours before open; no need to go at all unless you wanted to compare TVs in person.

@Stealth40k There may not be "DLC" but what about the amiibo? It's maybe not an essential feature, but base game owners won't have the same experience as those willing to spend an extra $250 on amiibo. It may be better than most modern games but it's not a complete package either.

Sakurai outright said Kirby Air Riders will receive no DLC and will not become an ongoing series. This is a game they've packed everything into and was made due to fan support, Nintendo greenlighting this and his development team at Namco.

Super Smash Bros. contains a sneaky "delayed action" anti-piracy measure to lull the illegitimate user into a false sense of security. The game will be normal the first 68 times it is launched. Starting with the 69th time, however, every selected character will turn into Mario.

@ForkLor_All @vs_genny It can stop people from buying it. I was tempted to get it yesterday, for various reasons. The overwhelming negativity from those who beat me to it helped me decide not to.

@meyerpark Lock 'n Chase is an excellent game, and IMO the best Pac-Man copycat there is outside the Pac-Man franchise. You should also try Dan Strikes Back. It's not as straightforward to play as Pac-Man or Lock 'n Chase, but it does have some common ground to share with those titles.

This is like Pac Man. I didn't know of this game till I got Antstream Arcade.

@Grummz It's not a mystery box. Does it or will it have a game you want to play? I bought one because of the Mario Kart World bundle, but Mario Kart isn't actually the system seller for me, Donkey Kong Bananza and Kirby Air Riders are.

@Grummz @WatcherDamned Misinformation. While some Switch 2 games will indeed be sold as game-key cards which only store a license to download the game, others will have the full launch version of the game on the game card. Concerns over unclear packaging and eroding ownership rights are valid though.

If you violate Nintendo's TOS, they can brick your hardware. "You'll own nothing and be happy."

@BarryDingleSak @Grummz I was with you until you said "refuse to review." That would leave the ones willing to lick boots as the only source out there. Support journalists who give appropriately critical reviews to deserving games without regard for the company's marketing budget or industry clout.

Blame gaming journalism as well for normalizing and legitimizing this crap by not going hard enough on the developers and reviewing their overpriced, anti-consumer garbage. Start supporting game journalists who refuse to review games made by these greedy, shady, and incompetent game developers, if there are any.

The amount of people supporting $80 games amazes me. I think about how much it will cost now to game with my kids on PC. $240 at the new price. Yes, there is inflation, but it is far outpaced by the growth of the market and numbers of gamers world wide and so many games being multi-platform now. Budgets have grown too, but that’s the real issue, the profit returns on 300M games are being beaten by 50M games. Why should we raise prices to keep supporting expensive games that can’t take risks because of how much they cost? 50M games with more creativity and risk taking are the future.

@Grummz If you count DLC or double-triple dipping on big games, they've already been $80+ for decades. It was just better hidden. Even now $80 isn't standard. With the Switch 2 bundle, Mario Kart World is only $50. DK Bananza is $70. People aren't going to care if the content delivers.

It's clear Nintendo wants the future of game distribution to be digital, but they still handicap digital with all the limitations of physical media plus the disadvantages of digital.

@videogamedeals I see gasps about the "limited time". Nintendo is likely going to replace this with about bundle towards the holidays like Pokemon or Metroid Prime 4. Let's be real, if you were getting Mario kart you were getting the bundle. You got until September/Oct to save up.

@wofanswer Not really, theme weeks in particular are mildly annoying to me since the puzzles are often related to the theme, which reduces the difficulty. Consistent visuals appeal to me more, except maybe for a tournament or other prestigious event.
