Just a reminder: Subtracting out the ethanol content of U.S. motor gasoline shows that U.S. consumption of petroleum-derived motor gasoline actually peaked in 2006.

This is a real ad running right now in Ohio. Is it effective or offensive?

@BrendanFWallace @aussieflya Also pretty sure the carbon footprint of propane tanks for grills across Long Island far exceed that of pizza operations in the Big Apple. Or what about propane tanks in the built real estate across rural New England and New York?

New York City: - Greatest city in the world. - Greatest pizza in the world. Hands down. I'm seeing some alarm going around that NYC's Dept. of Environmental Protection might crack down on emissions from the city's wood- and coal-fired pizza ovens, and make them install carbon-capture devices. First: The law hasn't passed yet. No one panic. Next: Real estate is responsible for about 70% of New York City's CO2 emissions. New York City passed Local Law 97, which goes into effect next year, to regulate real estate's CO2 emissions and fine buildings that do not comply. Cities care about their carbon footprint, and it only makes sense to fry the biggest fish—real estate. But as far as wood- or coal-fired pizza ovens go, I can't imagine they're responsible for even .01% of real estate's total emissions. Real estate needs to decarbonize—true. But don't let political squabbles distract you.

The US closed the Bureau of Mines in 1996 and distributed its functions to DOE, Commerce, and others. For the next 30 years, we lost the thread on non-fuel commodity minerals.

I just love this figure of Colorado River water usage from the @nytclimate today. I want a poster of it. Water law is animal law, at least in the West.

🚨NEWS: I'm joining my colleagues on @NewDemCoalition Climate Change and Clean Energy Task Force to endorse six priorities for permitting reform legislation. These will increase U.S. energy independence, lower energy prices, and accelerate our clean energy transition.
