@james_e_b_ I don’t think they are saying they couldn’t afford it, they are saying it was a treat. Not a regular occurrence.

Why are there all these Gen Xers announcing that when we were kids we could only afford McDonald's once a year? It's bollocks

@YouSceneThis If she really had a problem with it, she should have just stopped right there. She seems more concerned about promoting her movie than her own well-being.

In the 1990 interview on The Arsenio Hall Show, Bill Murray can be seen repeatedly touching Geena Davis’ arm and briefly pulling down the strap of her dress while they promoted Quick Change. Years later, Davis revisited the interview and called it “awful” and “devastating” while promoting her memoir.

@YouSceneThis Bill Murray is a good actor. Geena Davis, not so much. There are a few really good actresses in Hollywood, but Geena is definitely not among them.

I was young in the 80s/90s in the UK. I don’t remember my parents ever going out to eat, except when we were on holiday (in the UK). I don’t think they ever took me to a fast food restaurant, or ordered takeaway food. People today have no clue how working people lived. /1
Raven@raven_brah

Boomers seem to forget that fast food used to be a normal, everyday expense for them because it was affordable. You could get a burger easily on minimum wage, it wasn’t some fancy treat you had once a year as a reward for pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.

@james_rands @supertolerant We didn't get taken. Thats the point. I was 18 and working before I went to Wimpy. Of course we had burgers, frozen ones out the freezer, not all meals were homemade, but, they were mostly made at home. Crispy pancakes were another freezer i should add i'm Gen X for clarity

@Ends_wolf @supertolerant So we’re my parents. Both nurses. We only went to restaurants for treats. It wasn’t a regular occurrence and we only got fish and chips for a treat too.

@Ends_wolf @supertolerant His parents were lazy because they didn’t get a takeaway? Surely that’s the opposite of lazy?

@supertolerant Absolute bullshit or your parents were fucking lazy. Working class parents we used to eat out once a week and a takeaway. Maccys has been in ther country since the 70's. This is just boomer/genx slop. I honestly doubt your not genx tbh.

@supertolerant @russetmantle It was a huge treat to get fish and chips. My mum would set the table especially and for some reason we would also have tea and buttered bread with it.

@supertolerant So the one working class wage was enough of a wage to bring up a family and go on occasional holidays? Leaving your Mum enough time to spend on day-to-day things and cooking. Your own story points out glaring differences in how working people now have to live.

@Turv_not_a_bot @james_rands @supertolerant My Dad (a nurse) decorated our entire house himself. He and his friend installed a new kitchen once. We had two cars growing up. One was a Lada 😆😆 The boxy kind.

@james_rands @supertolerant 80’s Child here this is more or less my exact childhood, just add occasionally went out for food. This is how boomers brought us up. He is telling you how it was exactly. They cooked every meal, they washed their own cars, they fixed the houses, cars etc.

@james_rands @supertolerant I never saw a burger either. I’m 49. My parents were older than most. They never ever took us to fast food places. I don’t think they ever set food in one of them. We dined out once in a blue moon (usually at Garfunkel’s).

@supertolerant Says the guy who has created a fantasy world in which he never saw a burger as a child in order to heap praise upon the boomer generation. One of us has some issues. It isn't me.

@GarbageHuman24 One side, normal looking, attempting civil discourse. Other side, crazy looking, attempting to force a single ideology, by trying to shut down free speech. A nice little microcosm of the current state of affairs.

@GarbageHuman24 The 10yr olds are wiser than the 14yr olds. Wish we could skip those middle school/teen years where the world takes ahold of them.

New drama Monsieur Spade. The titular character meets the mother of one of the other main characters, who is also the wife of an artist. It's a BBC drama being broadcast on its commercial channel U, so, obviously, 'she' is suspiciously tall and played by someone who can't act.

A little throwback and a perfect reminder of just how fake this woman is. Cringe levels off the charts. The relentless name-dropping is unbearable and that low-angle camera trick while she looks away to seem deep and thoughtful? Painful.
