JKT for Gov

Good ideas are good ideas no matter where they come from. As a committee chair, it was important to me to treat all colleagues, whether D or R, equally and with respect. We've been missing this spirit of governance in the governor's office, and it's time to bring it back.

I just landed in Huslia, an Athabaskan village on the Koyukuk River, a little south of the Arctic Circle. I’m here because showing up for rural Alaskans has always been a priority for me and this campaign. Trail updates to come. Follow along!

Over 200 Anchorage neighbors turned out at Snow City on Friday to talk about how to bring back energy and optimism in Alaska. Thank you, The Work Shoes and Evil Wizard Collective, for letting me introduce you by your high school alma maters!

As a legislator, I worked hard to give Alaskans a voice at the North Pacific Council. As governor, I would make sure Alaska’s interests — not those of Seattle — are given full voice in our fisheries management decisions.

But our ability to fill the freezer has been jeopardized by fisheries management decisions that haven’t prioritized subsistence, Alaskan communities, and Alaskan small-boat commercial fishermen.

I grew up tagging along with my dad in our family’s 16-foot open skiff, bobbing up and down on the swells in Sitka Sound, as he’d troll for king salmon. My childhood was practically fueled by salmon — king, coho, and sockeye — just as so many families across our state.

Today is the one-month mark for the campaign, and we’re off to a terrific start.

The energy at the spring mushing world championship races is awesome. Congrats Buddy on the win!

Losing Ben and Catherine Walker — a Steph Curry and Caitlin Clark of teaching — from our Alaska schools is a clear call we as a state need to fundamentally recommit and reinvest in public education.

I’ve always felt like we should treat the teaching profession the way we think of doctors and engineers. (Or even professional athletes. There’s a great Key & Peele sketch to that end.)
